First time with HPA, stuff blew up, with Pictures!!

    Yeah..... ok....

So I have most of my gear together, I have never shot an E-Mag before.. some parts still on order from the net. Hoses and stuff..

Well I got a new gauge for my smart parts Max-Flo since the one that came with it was broken. I put it on last night. I took it to the local shop and had them fill it.. he only put 2000psi since the gauge didn't work.. ah well..

So I get home.. I REALLY wannna shoot my e-mag.. I'm itchin' for it. Since no paintball shops are open I head on over to the local auto parts store and pick up a grease gun hose.. the fact that it says "use ONLY with a grease gun" shoulda tipped me off.. but all the cool kids do it, right?!? It is rated for 3000 PSI.

I connect it to my E-mag..

Gently give it power from the on/off..

The sear bounces on the gun..

I turn up the reg.. it's at 500psi.. same thing..

I give it more.. same.. just bounce...

I give her all shes got.. somethin like 700 psi.. nothin..

I check the hose.. and it's got a friggen bubble where it connects!!! AHHH!

So.. I turn off the on/off valve.

    BLAMMMMMMM!!!

the hose pops, but, still has pressure, and it leaks at a steady pace. ok.. ok.. then I notice the gauge on my tank is now working!?!?! says 2000psi..

So I turn the tank on. Now my guns shooting!! I shoot with air still leaking..

    2nd BLAMMMMMM!!!

The damn output gauge blows off!!!!!

Gun is still shootin like a dream, heh heh..

I am scared to turn it off.. I back down the reg.. still shooting.. I keep backing it down... I then turn the on/off off..

I hear no more leaks.. the input gauge went back to 0psi and my output is blown to hell.

Man... give me back my 12 gram CO2's... LOL

I am scared to un screw the hose. Think there is air in it? The trigger does not bounce anymore.

    What... the.. hell... happened?!?!?

I know my first mistake was that grease gun hose.. but other than that, what the hell?!?!

            Scared the crap outta me...

yeah I'm OK, the hose wasn't so bad, but the gauge really blasted off, good thing it was pointed downwards.

I don't get it.. the hose is rated at 3000psi and the tank only had 2000psi, the guage was only up to 700psi when it blew..

            Really weird..

I sent smart parts an e-mail, I'll go to my local shop and get a new gauge and have them see what they can do.

Not a good intro to HPA, lol

              are your hands shaking?

actually, i think (since you didnt get hurt) that it was a good intro. you will now be wary of your tank. maybe not scared (after a while), but wary.

Is it possible that the guage only works when the on/off is on? I thought it was supposed to show the pressure in the tank no matter what, but twice now, when I turn the valve on the tank guage registers, off and it's back to zero.

Ugh... I'm gonna sell it and get a flatline..

The grease hose you got was a bad one. I would replace it, The grease hose I use are stamped "3000psi working pressure" and it has a 7500psi burst pressure. It looks like it blew off the outer layer wich means it probaly has a pin hole in the line somewhere. As for the reg it needs to be worked on, something sound way wrong.

Would the fact that the gauge only measures 700 psi have anything to do with it? Maybe it's not meant to rate that much pressure, and bam. It's a low pressure gauge.

I think that was it for the output guage, but why did the hose pop as well? it's a 3000psi hose but the tank only had 2000psi..

As far as the tank guage, it is always at zero.. when I connect it and turn the on/off on it will then register. Is that how it's supposed to work? The guy that filled it didn't think so.

Yes, thats how mine is anyways and i haven't had any problems with it. As for the gauge, you might of gotten a low pressure gauge, so I would CALL SP, since they will never reply to your emails.

I have used lot of grease gun hose (that's all we use to have). Recently (3 year ago) I had a bubble form also. I caught it before it "blew".
