why can't you put a nitrogen regulator on say, a 20oz co2 tank? thanks
ridiculous nitro/co2 question

A few reasons I can see:
Threads are not the same (or at least I don't think they are).
Regulators are not designed to cope with liquid, nor are they designed to work with very cold liquids.
Orings won't support liquid CO2.
Viscosity of the gas could have an impact on the way the regulator works.
Expect for those reasons, it should work. After all a nitrogen regulator is designed to work at pressures way higher than in a CO2 bottles (200bars instead of 60).

I believe that the threads are actaully the same on both nit and co2. At least all of the tanks that I have used have been able to go onto the same guns with out any changes to the guns.anyone who tells you there are no such things as stupid questions is lying to you so they can laugh at your questions.Comment

You can put a nitrogen regulator on a 20oz bottle if the regulator is designed so it won't freeze any o-rings. I think most 20oz CO2 tanks are rated around 1750psi. Check the threads that the bottle uses. Different manufacturers use different threads between the reg and bottle.Except for the Automag in front, its usually the man behind the equipment that counts.Comment

you can theoretically put a regulator on a co2 tank (the threads are the same), however you could only fill to 1800 psi. not to mention the fact that it is slightly illegal.
DOT regulations forbid using any substance but co2 to be put into a co2 tank (it says CO2 right in the dot stamp) unless you are hydro testing it."The Fine Print: Discontinue use if your eyeballs suddenly get way smaller."Comment

I think most of you are missing the point. he is not asking if he can use a 20oz co2 tank for HPA. he is asking if you can put an HPA regulator on a co2 tank to regulate the co2 in it.
the simple answer is yes. this would be no different than the max-flo setup. except you would not have a way to unscrew the tank from the reg. the reg would be part of the tank. put an anti-siphon tube in the tank and it would work. why you would want to is another subject, but it would work.

you might have problems filling like that. all the liquid could be bad.
there was one company that MADE a reg for co2. the r-2000 or something like that."The Fine Print: Discontinue use if your eyeballs suddenly get way smaller."Comment

no i meant putting nitro into a co2 bottle.

lol......well in that case, no, it is pointless. you have to keep the pressure under 1800PSI for fills and as someone mentioned, a 20 oz tank is about 31 CI. that would be a bout 150 shots on most guns.
