Throwing a HPA tank on my 68 Automag Classic

Being fairly new to using automags & automag design, I was bit reluctant to throw a friend's HPA tank on my automag when I ran out of CO2 (during a game). He said it wouldn't hurt it. So my question is would it have "hurt" it? (I've got all braided steel from the bottom line to the valve. The automag is stock. The tank had ~2900 psi).

    You're fine

The HPA would not have hurt your AutoMag. The output pressure of the tank will only be 800 to 900 psi max so you will have no problems.

actaully co2 hurts a mag alot more than HPA does. it is a dirty gas and causes the o-rings to freeze. HPA is the way to go on any gun, but it is almost a requirement on mags.

So far ... thanks Mer & Fire 1811!

I just wanted to add that my only pressure regulation in the system was what my mag valve was doing.

If the tank pressure was ~2900 psi wouldn't that pressure be felt by *everything* up to the valve's 1st stage?

I might not be follwing Mer 100% ... but I *thought* 800-900 psi was what the marker sees from a filled C02 tank at stp? (give or take a few 100 psi)

          thanks again.

nope, the 2900 PSI in the tanks internal pressure.......ALL HPA tanks have an integrated regulator that brings that pressure down to about 800PSI (-+50)

Ah ... that is what I did not know. I was basing my assumption on SCUBA tanks.

and thanks again for the reassurances.
