What would cause a regulator/stabilizer to stop working?

I recently purchased a used Classic Automag (here) for 275.00. It included a lvl 10, Palmer Stabilizer, and a Double Finger Trigger Frame. When I chronod my gun, it read 384!!!! So I messed with the velocity (both on the gun and on the regulator to see if it made a difference) and it wouldnt change AT ALL. So I take it to the pro shop, and the guy comes to the conclusion that the Regulator is not working. Now, my question it, What would cause a stabilizer/regulator to stop working? I took it off the gun and it seems fine? I also believe this may not actualy be a palmer, due to the fact that the pics on there site are different then my stabilizer and there name isnt on it (unless this is a different model). Is there a way to fix the stabilizer? Theres no way to get inside of it (theres just a little hole on the side and the top and stuff).

after a while, i fugured that regs and mags dont mix too well. a mag requires pressure fast to fill up its gas chamber. a cheap reg or a faulty one will cause ur mag to mess up or run slow or shoot hot. just get a good old gas thru and ull be fine
Yummy yummy yummy, I've got fun in my tummy.

if u use c02, the absolute best thing is to get an expansion chamber. itll increase gas effencienty by a tad, and it will help u gun not to freeze over. just get one and screw it in ur vertical adapter and ur set. a good suggestion are the ACI expansions chambers

Yeah I read hear that the Palmer Stabilizer + Anti-Siphon Tank was the best setup for CO2.

You should also check the lv10 spring you are using,
the longer the spring, the higher the velocity has to be to fire the marker. Try a shorter spring and back down the AIR valve to see if it helps.
