Shoot Down (And my life story too..)

Hey all... new here and figured why not get some second opinions from the pros.

    The History
Last year stunk financialy so I ended up selling my LCD Angel and Scratch built Cocker to make car payments... pretty much no paint ball for me. Life has gotten a bit better so I just recently purchased a mag off of ebay due to the fact that I have owned two in the past (A std mag in 96' and a red micromag in 98'). Anyhow the gun is listed as "Angel Killer Minimag" Its spray painted gold and really pretty ugly.... See Here But its going cheap ... and its a mag.. can't really hurt a mag too bad so I pick it up.

Two weeks later I receive in the mail a very early Level 7 mag. Its got the spring in the power tube and the really bad version of the brass recharge valve... and it looks uglyer in person than in the pic above.... this is all fine by me since I planned on tossing a few bucks at it anyhow and expected something like this anyhow.

Cosmeticaly I polished out the body and put a purple benchmark body and grips on it... and at this point it looks pretty nice if you ask me.. Take a peek .. performance wise I just replace all of the Orings etc give it a good cleaning and its off to the feild to see where we stand and what needs to be worked on.

    The Problem
So I take it out and it shoots.... yay good... but the first time I get on the triger bam it happens.... shoot down, I mean wicked bad shoot down, in a three shot string the third shot falls at my feet. Other than that it runs no leaks and the trigger throw is pretty long and gangly.

Round one of mods is 1st and formost a new Compressed air system, I know mags and Co2 dont particularly match well... so that change was the first. Second change was to swap out the recharge valve with a stainless one from "Check it" products.

Back to the feild we go .... and the gun still shoots down... not as bad.. but still 3 or 4 shots and you are practicaly gunning for your toes.

Round two of mods.. Now that I have a better feel for whats up I get a little more serious about tweeking the gun (Unfortunantly Price is an object) I do the good ole turn the sear pin out trigger job in order to kill all the play in the trigger and of course make the throw sharper and shorter. This of course results in bolt stick so I shorten the recharge pin to tweak the timeing which resolves that.

Today I am going to pick up some power tube spacers (Gotta check out the new I&I that went in over at the outlet center off of the strip ) because I know that will help with any short stroking during rapid fire which really hasnt been an issue yet since well... yeah rapid fire results in [Insert your favorite expletive here] balls at my feet

My question for you guys is why is the shoot down so bad... and secondly do you think shortening the valve pin more than it is will possibly cure it? I know going to far will wack it out.. but it seems to me that it could potentialy solve the problem since I know its all assembled correctly. (No its not in upside down.. if I should be so lucky). The other factor here is that I have been playing an indoor feild where the speedlimit is 250.. I am sure that doesnt help...

Thanks for the help... sorry for the novel.. but I figured it would help get me some acurate info :) Anyhow any ideas are appreciated.

you sound like you forgot the first rule of automag diagnosis, check the damn pipes! is there a valve in that q/d fitting on the pipe? are you getting good flow through that antiliquid/front grip?

undo the q/d from the reg and blow through from your bottomline, if you can't blow freely there's your problem

often in markers in the US people put "air stone" filters in the pipes, never try to put a filter anywhere near a mag, they need flow too much

Thanks for the heads up on that. That was actualy one of the first things I checked out and flow seems to be pretty good. I actualy think I have it all worked out right now... it doesnt sound like its shooting down anymore... but the only true way to find out yes or no on that one is to get it on the feild.... so wish me luck on sunday :)

well, get rid of your stainless on/off top, and get one from AGD.

i personally would use a new on/off pin, but thats preference (dont send it in to agd like that, though).

break open the reg, check for rust and such. grease the spring pack, and replace the reg seat. if you want, get a rebuild kit and have at it. that should solve all your problems.

Contrary to popular belief, the trigger pin is not an adjustable setting. You need to have it set so that when you gas up the gun, the trigger pin comes forward and there's a 1/16" gap inbetween it and the back of the trigger. If you hold the trigger all the way forward and the pin still comes up against the back of the trigger when gassed up, then you're going to have flow problems and you'll wear out your sear and bolt prematurely.

Check that, replace the on/off top with the stock AGD brass top, make sure the pin is .750" and that it's installed with the notched end facing towards the bottom of the gun when the valve is in the gun. If you can't remember, the assembly procedure is laser etched on the valve.

i cant clearly see the picture, but if you have an aftermarket valve/reg, thats a nono

I have the "check it" valve on the back half of my valve and it shoots great for me. CHANGE YOUR REGULATOR SEAT!!!
I experienced this very same thing. If i shot it one at a time it would be fine but if i pulled a quick string of shots. The balls would just drop out of the barrel. Buy a brand new regulator seat oil it up and snap it on to the back half of your valve, and yes it will actually SNAP on and make a clicking noise. It solved my problem :)

You also may want to double check that the on/off top isn't upside down . If it's the old style the grooves face downward , and it doesn't hurt to align the groove with hole that leads to the dump chamber.

Change your bolt spring. That is one item that will cause bolt stick and cause serious bloopers when firing rapidly.
Except for the Automag in front, its usually the man behind the equipment that counts.
