    macroline vs steel braided?

I have a new mini mag and I want my setup all black. I need to replace all the gas fittings with black ones, and I was flirting with the idea of macroline because of how crisp it looks. I've heard that it's often weak and unreliable. Any ideas, suggestions?

Welcome to AO. I have personally never seen black macroline fittings, but they might be out there. Macro vs. SS is a matter of preference. I prefer SS myself, and I know they make fittings in different colors for SS lines.

I have been using macro on my RTPRO for about 6 months with no failures. I don't remember ever seeing fittings that were black, everything I have seen is typically silver/chrome....

heres an idea it's actually what I did on my gun. I went with steel braid and then went and got black heat shrink tubing from radio shack shrunk it on. Now I have a black colored steel braid. Strength of steal similar appearence to macro.

thanx jaylock, that's what I kinda was looking to do. I just didn't know what I was going to use to cover the steel braided. I was going to go to Lowes or something, but I'm gonna check out radioshack tomorrow.

well, I've been a die-hard steel hose fan for years, but I recently got a gun that had macro with it and I really love it... I think it looks cleaner and it is easier to bend and real easy to disconnect. my new vote is for the macro- unless the length is really long that still freaks me out a little.
            sigs are overrated.

              Depends on length and PSI

I just switched to steel braided because I personally have had nothing but problems after i put in my LX. The macro line I believe is rated for 700 psi or less. I have tanks rated at 800 and a little more than 850 psi. I have had hoses blow that were over 5 or 6 inches. Not sure how this all relates, but just my personal experience. All steel braided for me now.

I see a red door and I want it painted black......

I don't care much for micro/macro and stuck with the trusty steel braid. I also got black elbows and finished it off with shrink tube.

                Heres how it looks:

Depends one what kind of macro you used. Most macro is rated for burst around 2500psi, cant remember I have the link at home.

Do not buy cheap macroline, parker makes some very nice macroline hose that has the same radius throughout the hose.

Hey there fellow Shocker owner, recognize you from SO.

The Macroline that comes on the Shockers is quality stuff, bit the stuff on the Automag TKO and stuff from Action Village is cheap, it has a large airway, the good stuff has a thin airway and you are probably right in saying it is ok for 2500 psi. I spoke to the owner of an online paintball place (names not used to protect the messenger) and he confirmed that the cheaper stuff is rated low.

So where can you get the good stuff?

I hate action village! they sent me the wrong barrel 3 times in a row!

Anyways... I use 32 degrees and it works fine. I cant really remember any macroline that gave me problems.

go with the automag tradition...get a 3 foot piece of steel braded hose and wrape it around ur gun a few times.

I usually pick them up at I&I, but if they dont have to color I want I usually buy from KAPP online, they have both the regular and the swivel in colors. I make a big enough order so I can justify getting ripped on shipping.
