    max-flo problems, HELP!!

    Hey guys,

So I've had my 2nd generation max-flo for about a year now and I really like it, but the regulator cap (that which adjusts the output pressure of the tank) is f'ing IMPOSSIBLE to screw in and out, usually it takes a considerable amount of effort to move it and right now it's basically stuck at 850psi out. I don't have a vice grip or anything at my house so I can't move the reg at the moment, no big deal I just have to take it to my friends place.

Why the hell is it so hard to turn, though? I've been playing along side a bunch of Impulse users and when they adjust their max-flo regs they can do it with two fingers, and I have to use a vice grip...Is there something wrong with my max-flo or is this normal with the high-pressure spring? Thx.

have you got dirt in the threads? try unscrewing it all the way off and check to see if the threads are ok. Other wise just add some oil.

in the outer ring of the MaxFlo ( were the indentations are ) there is a small hex head screw, at least there is in mine. Make sure it is not really tightened. This should help.

I have had this problem too. The best fix I can suggest is to use an anti-sieze on the threads.

Take your Adjustment cap off and clean the threads in it and on the reg. Apply some of the Anti-Sieze and it should be good to go for a good while. I re-clean and re-apply the anti-Sieze every time it gets hard to turn at all.

If you dont know what product I am referring to, go to your local Automotive parts store and ask for it there, they should be able to help

          DOH!

Well, I just mailed my Max-Flo to Smart Parts today to have them work on it. In addition to the tight reg cap problem my on/off wasn't functioning and the regulator was leaking out of the reg cap. I didn't have a rebuild kit or anything so I just figured I'd send it to them to get a good tune-up...replace all the o-rings and whatever. Thanks for the hints on the reg cap problem though, I'm gonna go to AutoZone today and see if I can find some anti-Sieze to toss in my gear bag along with all the other lubricants I have to carry around. Well that sounded bad, didn't it... Heh, thx again.

I've used max flos for quite awhile.

I believe impulses use low pressure springs for the max flos. Since the spring is lighter (not weight, presure) you don't have to crank as hard on the regulator adjustment. I believe werm (wermmods.com) used to sell a rubber coated cap to help with adjustment.

I have also noticed on my max flo that it is quite a pain to adjust (high pressure spring). All I can say is what's been mentioned. Clean the threads on the velocity adjust. Make sure that there isn't a tourney lock or other type device preventing adjustment of the reg.

As far as replacing the o-rings and your on/off not working they are one and the same. To save money, just take the old orings to home depot or lowes to find replacements. Max Flos are some of the easiest (IMHO) regulators to work on.

But, sending it in to smart parts always works. I have always had a pleasant experience dealing with smart parts.

Yeah they seemed pretty cool on the phone. I know that the all I needed to do to fix the on/off problem was replace the on/off o-ring, but I got my tank off ebay a year ago and I haven't replaced any of the o-rings, and given that there was a bunch of paint on the reg when I took it off the reg mount when I got it, I'm guessing that it's previous owner didn't do much upkeep on it, so I figured I'd just send it to SP and have them run through it and replace any of the o-rings that needed it. That and I'm having them mail me a rebuild kit for the regulator so I don't have to do any o-ring matching if/when I have problems again. The leak out of the reg-cap is another o-ring replacement/lubing issue that I've dealt with before, but I got sick of taking the reg apart and since SP only charges $22/labor hour I figured it was worth it to send to them.

I'm looking forward to getting it back so I can crank the output up to 950-1000psi and let the trigger run away from me once again Thanks guys.
