    Eating Air

I have an automag pf with a smart valve in it and i noticed it is eating air. Out of a 114 ci 3000 psi tank i can only get about 800 shots. Does anyone know what the operating pressure of the smart valve is? or is there a way i can change the pressure on the gun somehow? Please give me your input.

i hear mags eat up a lot of air. 800 shots from your tank sounds just about right, since its similar to a 68/45 tank, that i've heard people getting 800-900.

but don't take my word for it.

jeeze, lots of WI people here.

ahh, going to the field with only 500 balls...i love college.

Is there any way to adjust the pressure on the gun?

A 114 tank on a mag should get you around 1250 shots before you start to run out. This could vary a bit from gun to gun depending on factors such as barrel lengths and paint fit. Smart mags are also know to be a bit less efficient because of their "lower pressure design".

A barrel with a lot of porting closer to the breach contributes to inefficiency. The ideal barrel length for a mag is somewhere around 10 - 11 inches unported.

As for adjusting the pressure on the gun, you are doing that every time you adjust your velocity. Since the chamber volume doesn't change, the variable pressure in the front chamber dictates the velocity of the ball.

Many other guns use an adjustable regulator on or after the bottle to adjust their velocity. The mag has its own regulator built in to perform this task.
Except for the Automag in front, its usually the man behind the equipment that counts.

you could see if you can replace the smartmag parts with stock. the lower pressure of the smart valve isn't going to be enough to stop on a ball anyway.

get a 68/4.5k itll give u plenty of shots without the size of a larger tank

If the smart valve is designed to lower the pressure, wouldn't that mean better gas efficiency? I am probably wrong, if i am then what is the point of lowering the pressure?

Dump chamber guns can be efficient.

Lowering the pressure that the gas being used to propell the ball hurts efficiency.

Try to get stock AGD parts and replace the Smart Parts stuff.

if you lower the pressure then you increase the volume nessasary to obtain the same velosity. lower pressure just makes the marker easier on paint, however i don't think in this case it's low enough to make a diff.
