AO: We are back from the dead... again! After an 18 day outage, we are finally alive and well. Who knew how complicated updating software/databases from 2008 would be. I still have alot of tweaks to make, but my main goal was getting everything patched and updated to 2026.
Vbulletin 6 has changed alot since 2008 so we will have a ton of new features to dig into.
Why would AGD melt these bolts down - its a financial issue.
Factually a '96 classic mag is little different then a '02 - AGD has not changed colors or some stupid thing every year to differentiat from year to year, so I can buy a used mag and have a MAG - and an old one, they are built like tanks after all and it will look good
If AGD does not do something to get rid of some of the mags on the market they will have a very flooded market to try to sell into, why would anyone buy a new classic mag when all the used ones are out there and work great (and if they dont Tom Kaye and AGD will bail them out with technical support even though they made no profit from the sale).
In essence, AGD has to do one of a few things - either get rid of some of the mags on the market (or the valves, gets the same result nearly) - make yearly model changes so there is a "Coolness" factor every year like with the e-mag now, or become a company that asks "where did you buy this" before giving any tech support. AGD is doing the least cost effective (face it, a new color pattern every year would not be that expensive) but what I think is the highest moral option in this decision, and again I have to say Tom Kaye should be a model to more business people in America - honor, integrity, service, and a great product.
"Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. Its not" - Dr Suess
lohman, not true. They do it for warranty issues. namely, they wont have to spend as much time and money fixing a new valve (with new standards, parts they have on hand in bulk) then they will fixing a ten year old valve with a little spring for a spacer.
"The Fine Print: Discontinue use if your eyeballs suddenly get way smaller."
I seriously doubt they would take the time, expense and resources to melt them down. if anything, they would just sell them to the nearest scrapyard(after detroying them) for cash. otherwise, I bet there is a big pile of classic valves in the attic......lol
