no I don't plan to start a series but it just sounded good. I really should have seen this coming and now I feel really dumb for letting it happen, I thought I'd share this with everyone so you can avoid the embarrassment and possible injury.
for a while now my field strip screw has had a bit of a bend in it right about where the valve and body meet when it's screwed all the way in. I just ignored it because it didn't cause any problems with getting the screw in and out. (my mistake)
I was at field showing a bunch of new players considering what guns to get what a mag was all about, when suddenly the bolt stared to stick, I looked at the valve and it was backing itself out of the gun (right towards my face)
then the bottom half of the screw fell out of the gun, onto the floor. about this time I realized that but of milling that makes it a pain to get the valve out may have just saved half my face (there was no paint and therefore I had no mask on.) I got the tank off and disaster was avoided but it was a bit close for my liking.
Moral:
don't screw around with 450psi of air and a bunch of stainless steel. if your field strip screw starts to show some sort of ware REPLACE IT, it's only $7 for Peet's sake. *slaps self for not following own advice*
of all the pieces to ware out the strip screw and the pin that sticks into that bit of milling seam to be about the most important safety wise, as far as I can tell.
