RT Pro on the blink ... help please

Was wondering if anyone could help me. I have an RT Pro which does not want to function correctly. When I gas up the marker and pull the trigger it goes into run away mode and then eventually begins to leak down the barrel. I am using a secondary regulator which I have set to 500 PSI so I don't think it's a over pressure problem. I have replaced the powertube o-ring (power tube space is original and is .220), the o-ring that's at the bottom of the on/off pin , and the o-ring on the regulator piston. I think it may be a broken on/off pin but am not sure. When I look at it it barely extends past the on/off cap. I also don't think it's a worn sear because the marker is just over a year old. Anyone got any ideas. I have a tourney this coming Sunday and need a fix. Thanks for any and all advice.

I think 500 psi is too low and may well be causing the problem you describe. Try cranking that sucker up where it belongs.

First, try removing the secondary reg and running a full 850psi or whatever your HPA tank is preset to. If it's an adjustable tank, run it at about 750psi. Try this and feed it some oil by dropping 4-6 drops in the ASA or at the inlet to the valve. You need to give it a quick burst of air so it seals up right once you gas it up. 500psi might not be enough to do that so I think if you remove the secondary reg, it will cure the problem. Try this and report back.

OK. I cranked my secondary reg. so it was set to 750 PSI and have the same problem. Also removed the secondary reg and tried running just the stock ASA adpater. Put five drops of oil in ASA and screwed on tank. In each case marker gases up OK, but 1 pull of the trigger and it instantly goes into runaway mode and then just leaks down the barrel. I'm still leaning towards a sear or on/off problem. Anything else I can try. Thanks for the input so far.

          some possibilities:

          1. on/off pin broken (unlikely)
          2. on/off pin has worn too short (happened to me but mine only double shot)
          3. sear is worn (it doesn't take much)
          4. bolt is worn (sometimes a side effect of a worn sear, but the bolt is a softer metal, if you don't have a nice sharp edge to catch on, it may be done)
          5. you didn't mess with the trigger rod did you? when you gas the gun up it shouldn't be touching the back of the trigger.
          6. have you tried holding the trigger in when you gas the gun up so that everything sets properly?

may the force be with you.

Find someone with a pair of dial calipers, or if you have your own, measure it. Should be about .750" If it's more than .25" shorter than this, it's been chipped off on the end and you need a new one.

Try tightening your field strip screw.

Thanks for all of your input guys. I've tried everything I can think of and reviewed the troubleshooting section of the RT video and nothing has seemed to help. I've taken my Mag to a local airsmith to have the professionals look at it. I should have an answer by tomorrow with what's wrong with it.

Drizit, in answer to your questions I did not mess with the trigger rod and it is not touching the back of the trigger when I gas up the marker. I also tried holding down the trigger when gassing it up but it just goes into runaway mode when I do this. Thanks for the input I appreciate it.

Something just tells me it's something to do with the on/off pin because the end looks like it may have been chipped off. Since I don't have another one to replace it with I can't be sure. I'll let you all know what happens. Thanks to all who posted and provided suggestions.

I agree with you Peter, I would guess the on/off pin has been worn down too short. Other than that I can't think off anyhting else. I guess the paintballwizard will find out.

Just wanted to post an update so if someone experiences a similar problem they know what to do. The problem with my RT Pro was a broken On/Off pin. Thanks to the AGD service department for overnighting a new On/Off pin to my local store in time to get the gun fixed and ready for my first tournament this Sunday.

Interesting side note, the On/Off Assembly for the RT has been redesigned several times. The AGD tech had to send five different pins to my local store in order to make sure we had one that would work. If you ever order one of these yourself, make sure you get the right one.
