    MagBody changes and wooden grips...?

    Hi guys

First off, thanks for all the help I recieved from all your responses to my 'stupid' questions last time. Yes, I am a newbie but everything I asked was answered perfectly well...thanks again!!

I have a couple more issues I hope you may help me with:

    1. I know the Mag body is stainless steel and powdered grey - can I polish it to a 'high shine' finnish like that on an Emag? If so, what would be the correct way?

    2. I would like to install a double finger trigger on my old Mag by sawing off the normal trigger frame - how can I achieve this without messing the grip frame up? (where should I saw on the trig frame?) Sandpaper to finnish it off? Any tips or pointers would be greatly appreciated!!!

    3. I'm thinking about making my own wooden grips for this grip frame (see above) - is this a good idea? I want my marker to look different but not decrease its performance or reliability...which wood is best for this task (it shouldn't warp in the sun, varnish coat? etc etc)

Thanks guys...as you can see, I like to tinker myself! If any of you have tried any of these things or know how to do them, please reply!!! Any info I can get would help immensly!

yes u can polish the mag body to make it shiny like on emags. search for it and u will find a tread that tells u how to do it. to cut off the triggerguard all u need is a hacksaw and just cut at the top of the trigger guard and on the bottom by the grip. u can sand it to how ever u like and whatever looks good. im not sure about the wooden gips though.

Making them would be great - but you could save yourself some trouble. I bought these on ebay ( I think they are PMI ) and made of rose wood. They are REALLY nice. The finish on them is mirror smooth, and even after a hard days playing they are scratchless... which is a miracle.

I've got a pair like that (in Maple) and they are great. I believe Smart Parts makes them. They also make them for 45 grip frames. You could make them yourself and hard wooks like maple or oak would work well.

I wouldn't cut off your trigger gaurd. No tournaments will let you play with it and many field will have a problem as well. Check at your field before you do it. You wouldn't want to have to buy a new trigger frame.

Thanks guys, the pic is awsome!

Ok, I had no idea it may not be legal to cut off the trigger guard...I better check that one out before I do anything - automags.org forum may have saved the day again!!!

Also, another option may be to experiment with fiber glass/resin cast grips...I have access to molding equipment so I may try a few before I set my heart on the wooden grips (although they do look awesome on the mag...man, that pic rocks!) I can then also experiment with colours as it is possible to include different colour schemes into the mix...could be fun.

I will let you know how this turns out...and I'm sure I'll have some more questions soon! Thanks again guys...

ps. anyone else know about this legality issue concerning sawn off trigger guards?

It's not that "sawing it off" is not allowed, it's more that many tournaments state that trigger gaurds are "required" for safety.

I like the sound of the moulding idea. If you created some funky but useable shape you may even find a market for it.

I'm in love with my wood grips though - and they arn't so expensive. My wife is sick of me massaging my Mag as we are sitting in the evening watching TV.

              Ok...thanks for clearing that up!

Yeah, it should hopefully turn out ok...the really cool bit is that I can begin by taking a mold of my own hand in a natural grip (like that done on clay...just squeeze it gently into the the shape of your natural finger groves) and with that I can then take it into the casting process using that same model. Once the resin is poured and colour is added (or no colour = looks like glass without) I can put it on and continue modyfying it as needed.

The cool bit is that I can make customizable grips to fit that individuals hand shape because of the process.

Any ideas on how to polish the mag's body into the 'high shine' finnish?...I looked everywhere for info...nothing.

Not to over pimp AGD's wares, but for a nice, totally legal trigger frame that's got a double trigger, check out the Intelliframe:

                Intelliframe Info

Those use standard 45 grips, and you can get wood ones from Smart Parts. I'm pretty sure this is it, tho no pics:

Tho I would love to see what you could do with fiber glass/resin.

Is the inteliframe really that great if you arn't going to use the "inteli" aspect of it? I'm not an ROF guy, and my viewloader feeds me all I need, so I don't need to hook it up to my trigger. So, is the intelliframe worth twice the price of something like a dye grip? I'd be more likely to save money and go with the dye or spend more and buy a hyperframe.

If on the other hand the inteliframe is a master piece of engineering compared to both of these then I want to know about that - I trust AGD stuff.

From what I understand the Intelliframe is a super nice short trigger pull (unlike Benchmarks). I actually have a DYE 2 finger trigger/triggerframe. I like it, but will prob end up getting a Intelliframe also.

The advantage of the AGD product is a fully functional saftey (that won't fall apart when you remove main rail). And you know it will work well, and be fully supported by AGD.

                    As for cost:

Dye Chrome Double Trigger Frame: $80
                    Dye Chrome Double Trigger: $30
                    AGD Saftey Assy: $6
                    Total: $116

                    AGD Nickle Plated Intelliframe: $120
                    (which includes everything above)

Yeah, you can make it cheaper by going non chrome/nickle, but, yuck, not shiney? (IMHO)

Is the inteliframe short enough to still allow the user of the vertical adapter? I use it as a forward grip attachement.

I'm glad you cleared up the quality issue. I was tempted by the dye grips on ebay, but again I learn that with almost everything aftermarket that AGD stuff is always the best bet.

I'm an absolute idiot, so will probably think of something to rig a trigger switch up to, like one of those noise makers so that every time I pull the trigger it makes a farting noise ;-)

                      Any other useless suggestions?

                      Thanks

Oh! I like that idea, well maybe not the farting thing exactly, but something along those lines. People have talked about a shot counter, that could be fun. Or maybe blue LEDs that flash, ok maybe that's just my love for blue LEDs talking...

As for the size, I have read posts where peeps are using Kapp Gas Through grips (which is a lil larger than the Vert ASA). Tis a good thing, cause that's what I have too.
