safety spring?

I got a used mag classic, ordered a manual and video from AGD, and followed some of the dismanteling steps in the video. When I removed the main body, I THINK a messed up little spring came out. Something came out, and hit my foot on its way to the floor. I found a wierd looking totally compressed little spring, and tried to put it in a hole right above the safety on the rail, and could not get it to fit. In the video he mentions being careful not to loose some safety spring, so I assumed this was it. The spring looks dead, like it wouldn't really do anything, and I couldn't get it back in there. I have a benchmark .45 frame. Do I need the safety spring?

Can anyone tell me exactly what the safety spring does?

Benchmark 45 frames don't have springs that easily fall out... at least mine doesn't. Does your safety flop freely back and forth now? If not, you probably found a spring from something else.

Ok, here is where I am now. I talked to the guy that sold me the mag, and he told me he didn't have the spring when he built it so he put in a spring from an AR15 rifle that he had. This was the spring that fell out. Now, I have contacted Benchmark and Pro Team Products, and hopefully they can get me the correct spring for it. Also, YES, my safety is flopping back and forth. I really did not realize it until I played saturday and it flopped over to SAFE a few times in games. Thanks for the help, hopefully I have it fixed soon.

Yeah, I've had my benchmark'd mag apart a few times and I never even noticed a spring that would fall out.

OTOH, I have also built an AR-15 rifle. Those have little springs that fly out all over the place, what a pain.

Good luck with getting the new spring.
