.........but. I really need to know the best way to polish a Mag body. I thought that I had done a good job with fine grit sandpaper, but I read somewhere about lye and polish. Can someone show me the post that deals with this? I've looked all over.

Well, the first thing is to get 100-2000 emery wet/dry paper. Start with the coarse grit and work your way up, doin it under the faucet works well to keep things clean. Slowly move up to finer papers until you have thoroughly done it with the 2000. Get out you Mother Mag polish and shine her up, should look great. -
you can finish her up with some SOS pads or reg steel wool too.polished minimag
