You'll need lye to get the anodizing off the rail. Undiluted lye would probably burn the skin off your hands and I wouldn't know where to get some. Drano contains lye in an unspecified amount, so that might work.

Oven cleaner works well. Heat the rail slightly and spray it on. Use some steel wool to remove the what remains. Continue the process until everything is gone and then polish it with mothers or something similar.

          its anodizing, not paint

and as they said, lye removes it

red devil drain cleaner is probably the strongest stuff out there right now

for all of my polishing so far, i've just worked my arse off for a few hours with the dremel with various sanding buffs and metal brushes

i even polished my brass PGP to a beatiful shine

It doesn't have to be super hot just get it hot and spray the stuff on. It should bubble up and you can wipe it away.

I actually just did this with my foregrip, and its really easy. Just cover it in some Drano Max and let it sitt about 5 mins, then rinse it off and use an old towel to wipe away excess. Do it until all the anno is gone, about 3 times. Then polish it some, and boom! really shiney!
