    open vs closed bolt

ok, i want to get this straight...

autocockers and mags (with the same barrel and air sup) will shoot about the same distance, right?

i maybe selling my cocker pnues (keeping the sniper), and upgrading my mag.

*smacks head* damn air hogs *shakes fist*

ahh, going to the field with only 500 balls...i love college.

All things being equal (air tank, barrel and same velocity) yes. They will shoot the EXACT same distance.

Assuming, of course, the velocities of the two guns are identical and you are using the same paint/barrel the laws of physics therefore dictate that the two guns will indeed shoot a paintball the same distance.

--Edit: Gah! That's the second time you've done that to me Dayspring.

Sure they do, if you chrono both at 300fps, they both shoot 300fps. Figures eh ?

what's the difference between open and closed bolt as far as performance. Pro/Con of each?

              Open Bolt:

open bolts are just that, the bolt is open before each cycle. the ball is at rest in the open chamber untill the gun is fired. This puts more stress on the ball because it still must be pushed into the barrel and causes a wider shot grouping but higher rate of fire.

              Closed Bolt:

Closed bolt guns are guns that the bolt is in the closed position or bolt forward position before each cycle. The ball is at rest in the tip of the barrel before the action is fired. Colsed bolt designs tend to be a bit more accurate than open bolt designs because it only has to travel down the length of the barrel without interferances. Closed bolts also require more time to cycle thus limiting you rate of fire.

if this doesn't make sense, its because im very tired. please feel free to correct me if i have left out any vital information. sorry ahead of time for my eradic cappitalization and misspelled words. lol

and thank you for even furthur perpetuating this myth!

if that was the case, then how do you explain vikings, matrixes, automags? they are all open bolt and just as acurate as any cocker. in fact I was playing with a guy last weekend that had a stock cocker, it wasn't very acurate at all.

The open/closed bolt myth only really has any theoretical affect on the first shot anyway. If a marker is firing at the rate of 16bps, then the action on the ball is virtually the same for both designs. The ball is pushed into the barrel and then fired.
Except for the Automag in front, its usually the man behind the equipment that counts.
