new valve pin mod? retro x valve

first of all i in no way want a full auto gun or a gun that shoots 2 or 3 balls at a time. i play tourneys and i just want the reactivity i had before i went lx.
------hey i just got an idea . i know the valve pin is pushed down by air to give the reactivity, i was thinkin of uppin the kick by using an old school lp spyder mod. to get the strikers to reset at lower pressures you can curve in the front of the striker. due to the concavity you are left with, more air equals more surface area. and that equals more pressure. even taking sand paper and roughing up the top of the valve pin increases the surface area, and that would in effect do the same thing, right.
I was thinking of doing that shorted pin thing how much do you need to take off, how much is too much. oh yea, im an engineering student. and i want a job in paintball when im done with school.

I'm no pro on shortening on/off pins but I know that you should only take about .005" to .01" off. I'm also not sure which end you need to shorten. I just wanted to offer some caution before you permanenly change something. You sound smart enough to be patient enough to wait for good advice, I just wanted to make sure! Good Luck

I have shortened my on/off pin. Do not touch the top part(the wider one). Sand the bottom part with 400 grit wet sandpaper.
Use a micrometer or a digital caliper and start taking off .001" at a time and test. From the original .750" i had mine sanded down to .746" and it worked perfectly. Be carful not to over do it, i would sugest you dont go past .740 or so.
      Good luck!

Mine is currently at .7435" and I love it. Not that I have even looked at it since I got the ULT.

Its the cross sectional area of the air passage, not the surface area of the object that determines the force due to pressure. A rough object would have force exerted in many directions but the vector force exerted on the top of the on/off pin pushing it out would only be equal to the force exerted on the top as if it were a totally smooth, flat object.
