    First Shot Shoot Down

My first shot over the chrono is very slow, as low as 180. After that the gun shoots around 280 like I need.

This only happens after I don't fire for a minute or two.

I have a retro-valve with a level 10 bolt and adjustable tank. I have tried pressures from 750 to 950 on the tank.

    Thanks

I tried an extra shim but developed a new problem.
Now the gun fires twice for each trigger pull, once on the pull and once on the release.

      Thanks

Go back to the original shim setup.

Try going one half carrier size larger. If you are getting leaking with the larger carrier, go back to the original carrier and put the smaller bolt spring in. Use it untill the carrier o-ring is broken in. Once the carrier o-ring is broken in, the mag will work just fine and be very consistent in almost any configuration.
Except for the Automag in front, its usually the man behind the equipment that counts.

          Back to Basics

The springs didn't help, so on the advice of a friend I replaced all of the o-rings in the reg. It seems to have fixed the problem but I won't know for sure until I get to a chrono.

          Thanks

Keep the regulator clean. If the grease around the regulator assembly gets gummed up, the regulator will be sluggish.

Hopefully you found and fixed the problem. Good luck.

              warm up shots

My gun does this too. You know how the RT valves shoot at higher velocity when you pull the trigger faster? That's what's happening here although the level X is more sensitive to the loss in pressure that occurs as the air chamber cools (gun sits.) All you can do is reduce the friction of the bolt, or use a smaller spring.

Which spring are you using? Are you using the largest o-ring carrier possible without leaking? Do you keep the gun well oiled? Do you have an adjustable tank? Try increasing your input pressure.

I run the largest spring to keep the gun as gentle on paint as possible. Even when its well oiled I have to cycle the gun several times before each game before it will even fire. It seems to take about ten minutes before the gun requires more warm-up shots. I've fixed the problem by using a smaller spring but then I break brittle paint. Its a trade-off.

A well kept RT valve recharges very quickly. Even a sluggish reg isn't enough to cause this problem. Follow the instructions and use as many shims as needed for the bolt to return when you place a squeegee just infront of it and fire.

The air in the air chamber get extremly hot due to the recharge rate of the RT valve. This heated air will increase the velocity of your paint when fired rapidly. You are letting the air in your marker cool when it sits for more than a couple of seconds. Thus, reducing your velocity on you first shot. To chrono an RT valve properly you need to take one shot and hold the trigger. Then, over the chrono, release and pull the trigger as quickly as you can. This will simulate a rapid fire condition and give you the true velocity of your marker.

Sort of unrelated, but an interesting side note. I just received my X-valve with LX for the ULE RT-Pro that I'm building. I went to install it last night. I followed the directions on the cd that came with the x-valve and I set it up to what I believe is right. When I swiched to the med spring I noticed that I could not get it to fire on the first shot. However, after I reset the bolt the thing would rapid fire like mad. It seems that I found a spot where the velocity on the first shot was low enough to keep the marker from firing properly, but was fine under rapid fire.

Good luck with your problem and keep us posted. Have you tried looking in the level 10 problems thread?

                      All is well in MagVille

I got out to the field yesterday and tested out my Mag, and she's working great. Before one game I fired 3 over the chrono at 178 each, the max is 180. Shots were never more the 10 fps apart, and this is a normal affect of snapping the trigger. The hottest shot all day was 181, that was out of about 30 over the chrono. Replacing all the o-rings did the trick.

I first noticed this after I put in my Level X and blamed the problem on the new bolt. I think I read every single thread in the Level 10 page and no one had this problem.

So I guess there are 2 morals to our story...

1 Replace O Rings yearly, when they go it may not be with a big boom, they can gradually degrade performance.

2 Don't get tunnel vision, it seemed like level X was to blame when in fact it had nothing to do with the problem.

                      Thanks

180 over the chrono? I hope you mean 280.:)

I'm glad to hear you got your mag working the way it should. The o-rings must be kept clean, but a yearly change is not necessary. Many people, myself included, have run our mags for years without an o-ring change and experienced no degradation in performance. Just be aware of your mag.
