    EMag Errata

    1) When in electronic mode, do you still get the reactive trigger "push back" like on a mechanical only mag?

    2) I'm assuming if one buys a new EMag that it comes with both level 10 and X-Valve. When did AGD start shipping EMags like this? In other words, if I decide to buy an EMag from anywhere besides AGD, what questions should I ask to make certain I'm getting the latest and greatest?

    3) Is there any reason that I wouldn't want an EMag over an RT Pro? (providing cost isn't a consideration)

    Thanks!

    1) No you don't get the reactivity in electro mode, its basically the hall sensor that tells when you fire
2)Ask the people your buying from, i hear that some people are getting that from pbgear
    3) Its a rt-pro with the electro side built into it, so you almost get the best of both worlds, belive me you won't be disapointed

        Thank you....and BTW

For your own amusement: I'm actually doing all this homework b/c I've finally decided to upgrade my marker: an *F1 Illustrator* that I've been using since 09/06/91

Easy decision too...Automags are the only markers I've ever considered over my own, and the only ones I've seen that are nearly as reliable.

I've put through at least 50,000 rounds in the past few years, and although she's slow, I have *never* chopped a ball! The only maintenance I've done is takin her apart and applying a little WD40 and changing the ball detent about once a year.

My next marker has a lot to live up to.

        Cheers!

Wow, your F-1 should get together with my VM-68 and share war stories.

            okay the questions:

#1 It CAN get push back. It really depends on where in the trigger pull the hall effect sensor is tripped. If its far enough back, and the trigger has enough play. then the sear rod thingy will hit the trigger. At least I THINK this is theoretically possible. I sold my emag pretty quickly after I got it.

#2 Better check before you buy. Id try and get the newer style if I were you.

#3 Id get the emag. RT pros are nice guns, but there is nothing better than an electro, in my book.

As far as reliablility goes, there are plenty of markers that are as realiable as emags, and some that are more reliable. There are also plenty of markers with lifetime warrantys now. Look around before you drop that much dough. But if you like the emag that much, get it. You can never go wrong with an AGD product.

Heres the short version. I bought an emag upon reentering the sport after a break of several years. Mags were tops back then, so it seemed like a logical choice. Played with it a few times. Didn't work well for me. Biggest issue was my inability to get any sort of decent ROF from it. I tried walking it, rolling it, fanning it, spanking it, whatever. So I sold it and did some research.

Eventually bought a marker called the Viking, made by a company called AKA. From the minute I got it out of the box, I could just rail on the thing. Massively improved ROF. Efficiency is easily double what I had in the Emag, to the point where I got a smaller tank and STILL get more shots than the emag with a larger tank. Also, AKA has a lifetime warranty on their guns. It breaks, they fix it. Forever. As long as it wasnt casued by operator error, i.e. dropping it off a building. IMHO an improvement on the AGD "stars" program.

But some people swear by their Emags. I have seen videos of people getting some amazing rates of fire out of them. But it just didn't work for me. I have not regretted my decision for one second. Best thing to do: Go to a field and ask to shoot someones gun.

Remember, its all about what works for you. Vikings are pretty hard to find nowadays. I bought mine at www.selectpaintball.com. I think they have some in stock. If you decide its something you are interested in, PM me and Ill give you more details. AKA's site is www.akalmp.com.

                      Good luck!

AKA has their issues as a company too. Read here.

As for E-Mags, they're not for everyone either. The problem with ROF on them for people is that they come from the factory with a pretty stiff trigger setting. Most people don't know that this is adjustable so they just think the gun is slow and don't do anything about it. Now you're probably thinking, well why doesn't AGD make it super light from the factory? Simple - liability. If someone shoots out their eye because they set the trigger on their E-Mag to a hair setting and AGD gets into a legal battle over the issue, they can show that the gun is set from the factory with a much stiffer trigger setting and something like that would have happened or would have been much less likely.

It is fully adjustable more than any other trigger out there, IMHO. I have a thread in the tech forum here detailing the E-Mag trigger adjustment.

All E-Mags are shipping from the factory now with X-Valves and ULE grip frames. They still don't have ULE rails, but I believe they are in the process of switching the body to the ULE body. The best way to get what you want is have a local dealer order a brand new one from AGD. A lot of online places still have to push out their old inventory, so you have no idea what you'll get and most likely the guy you talk to on the phone won't be able to tell you or guarantee you'll get the latest edition.

As for the reactive bounce, as long as the gun hasn't been messed with since it was setup from the factory, it will not have bounce in E-Mode.

It is something to spend your time researching before you put down the money. With respect to the warranty issue, AGD does have the star program, but they have always been open to fixing things for free if it's an issue with the gun that is not a result of misuse or poor maintenance. If, for example, the mainbody solder joint were to break or the solenoid burned up, they'll replace that free of charge. They just have the new warranty policy with the 90 day warranty plus the star program to keep people from taking advantage of them and sending in a gun that has a slew of aftermarket parts on it and looks like it was dropped into a swamp and pulled out and then sent to AGD to get a rebuild.

One other thing, no matter what gun you get, don't get WD-40 anywhere near it. That stuff will eat the high quality urethane o-rings that most of the top end guns are using.

BlackVCG, I have to tell you, that post was absolutely ridiculous. That guy had issues. First of all, AKA has switched to WAS boards, so I'm sure they were not putting a whole lot of effort into the older Nelson boards. Secondly, he was crabbing about the toolkits? Well, scarcity is a byproduct of sudden popularity. Just ask people who waited for the WAS equalink cables, or the X-mag customers. All the guy had to do was send the damn gun to AKA, and they would lower the LPR and raise the ROF for free. I saw no substantive issues regarding the marker in that post.

Personally, I love the emags. But I tired every trick with the trigger I could think of, from adding magnets to removing magnets. I added spacers, lengthened the pull, shortened the pull, and sacrificed a chicken. Just couldnt get it working right. I even tried emulating BlackVCG's technique, because he gets an amazing ROF from his emag. Didn't happen.

As far as the warranty, I think AGD has great customer service. But a company that states "lifetime warranty" carries a little more weight than one that MIGHT fix my gun, depending on whatever criteria they use. Then again, AGD has been around a LONG time, and certainly has a great track-record for reliability and customer service.

Bottom line: try them out before you commit. There are plenty of good markers out there to choose from.
