    E-Mag ground/short problem?

This has happened to me twice now while on the field. The eletronics cut out, and when I get home I check it out (after playing the rest of the day, of course).

The culprit seems to be the screw on the PCB located inbetween the chip and the LED display. I can tighten it and loosen it, and the electronics will cut in and out. It doesn't seem to like one position (I screw it in all the way, and the board cuts out, I back it out a little and it's working, back it out some more and it stops).

Does this little guy need to be insulated or something?

You should have a good connection there, that's where the Emag board gets it's ground. It confuses me that if you tighten it all the way it won't work.

If you have a ohm-meter you might try checking the resistance between that screw and the negative terminal of the battery. It should be close to zero.

If it's open or not very close to zero then you might try scratching up the area underneath that screw to get a better connection.

BlackVCG took a dremel to mine and ground off some of the anodizing underneath the screw. That did the trick right up.

If it is close to zero, that's not your problem... and I'm not quite sure where to go from there.

Yeah my emag had the same problem. I just cleaned the screw hole out using a tap and also removed the annodize from the top of the post. I haven't had any problems since.
Except for the Automag in front, its usually the man behind the equipment that counts.

Thanks guys. I filed down the end of that screw a little and she's working like a charm again.
