    Clasic Valve Mods.

I have a clasic mag and I was getting ready to drill out the single hole valve to an 8 hole. Is this a bad idea or will it benifit my performance? Are there any other mods I can do myself to any part of the gun, valve, trigger, whatever?

    Thanks

I've heard horror stories about drilling the classic... So if your going to do it. KNOW WHAT YOUR DOIN!!! OR YOU'LL MESS IT UP. You can't erase a hole that you drill!!

Dont drill you valve. It will do nothing.
If there are 8 holes in the back of you valve and 1 hole in the front, the 1 hole in the front is restricting the flow. You cant drill more holes in the front so its pointless.

the classic mag (all mags for that matter) are very home-mod UNFRIENDLY.

Don't drill the valve. As thery have said, it WONT help at all, and you just risk screwing it up and then AGD never warrantying the part because you altered it.

As for 'home mods' about as much as you can do is oil it, clean it

Unscrew the field strip screw and take your valve out. Contact AGD about trading it and $225 for a X-valve. When you receive the X-Valve, install it and replace the field strip screw. That's about the best valve mod/upgrade out there

To go a step futher, let's explain why the "8 hole mod" isn't needed any more. First, as stated, the number of holes in the rear half of the valve doesn't matter as the front half only has (and can only have) one.

Now, back in the early days of the mags the 2 holes (front and rear) didn't line up with each other. This did cause a small performance issue. 8 holes allowed for more likelyhood that one hole would line up with the hole in the front half. These days AGD has a process the insures the holes are drilled in line with each other - so no other steps (drilling more then one hole) is required.

The problem with so many of the Automag mods done by people other then AGD is this - they don't really know what they're doing. Just because something might logically seem to help, doesn't mean that it always does, but people will run out a produce a fix anyhow. (One that will cost you money to fix a problem that in all likelyhood hasn't even been shown to exist) The 8-holed rears are a perfect example - they are still being produced today - yet the ONLY thing they do is take money out of your wallet. Trust me, the level of design and engineering that AGD puts into their produsts cannot be found ANYWHERE else in the paintball industry. Until there is someone who cares enough to use real testing protocols and equipment it HIGHLY unlikely that ANYONE could come up with anything to improve the mags performance.
