    Smart Parts Minimag?

Ok, I just bought a minimag off ebay. Beautiful gun, tricked to the max extreme. I got it and I read the valve and it says: Smart Mag - Custom Built for Smart Parts then it has the normal MINIMAG on it. Is this something special or is it on all minimags because its the first time I've ever seen it. I was wondering when and how many were produced and if there are any performance upgrades? Thanks if I could get some answers.

You can search for much more info on this topic, but I think the short version is this: long ago the All Americans (some of whom went on to found SmartParts) used to use virtually all AutoMags and they began to try to do a number of things to "improve" the performance. One of them was to add a "magic box" on the outside which basically was an enlarged air chamber in an early attempt to lower the pressure, and the other was to do some drilling into the valve in an attempt to improve the airflow and recharge rate. These things did not do anything to improve performance, and many have noted that the magic box actually is a large contributor to shootdown.

If you have a magic box on the outside of the valve, you probably want to remove it. If the back half of the valve is drilled (multiple holes for airflow), it is probably nothing to worry about, but is not going to do anything to improve things. One other thing to check would be the on-off top, which was something they also experimented with. If it's not stock, get a new one from AGD - all of the other designs have been found to cause problems of some sort and none of them improve performance.

The "smartmag" has an internal magic box. Basically they enlarged the chamber. This lowered the pressure very minimally offering no preformance gain, and often causing shootdown.

Do you still have the link to the ebay auction with Pics? Smart Parts used to do a number of "performance" mods as listed above, plus they used to do splashed parts. Does yours have many of those?

I used to own this gun and I believe that I sold it to the person who had it listed on Ebay. This particular marker did not have a Magic Box and internal SP mods were minimal. It had a different on/off top, IIRC, and I think that was pretty much it. I had a Hyperframe on this gun when I owned it and it performed great for me.

Haha, small world. I haven't really had a chance to try it out. The tank needs testing, so I can't really get many shots off until Sunday. Just out of curiosity, how much did you sell it for?

To be honest, I don't remember. I bought it on Ebay with a Hyperframe, 68 4500, revy, pack and more, and then parted it all out for a small profit after using the gun once or twice.

Bah, Smart Parts makes nothing custom.

AGD makes the valves for smart parts, so they don't really make them
