residue build up on ULE body???

I purchased a ULE body not all too long ago (just a regular un annoed one) and it works great. But ive noticed a residue is appearing on it that is kinda greyish-greenish and doesnt really comes off. I iron wooled it a lot, but nothing. I didnt want to sand my ULE so i just left it. Now it real ugly and unshiney. Anyone know what this stuff is?

Welcome to the world of un-anodized aluminum!!!

A raw chunk of aluminum can be polished to a 'chrome like' mirror shine, and within a couple days/ weeks of exposure to air, will dull completely, and look as if it has some weird 'funk' on it. The only way to get rid of it for good is to get the peice anodized.
