    Hydro help.

I just got a tank from someone, and I have a question. Does it need to be hydro'ed?

    07-IA11-00

I found some website about it, where you could enter the data and whatever to tell you when it needed to be hydro'ed, but it didn't work (Page not found). It's a Carleton Technologies, Inc. cyclinder (if that has anything to do with the hydro).

    Thanks!

I'm going to guess the date is 7-11-2000 which means you have another year.

      www.hydrotesters.com has one
Your cylinder must be tested (re-qualified) on or before the last day of June 2003.

Ok, cool. But, from the answer, I have another question:

        NOTE!
Luxfer Cylinders and Carleton (Pressure Technologies) have both been granted a 5 year re-qualification exemption for their Carbon Fiber wrapped cylinders only! This means that those cylinders must be tested every 5 years instead of every 3 years.
(The cylinders still only have a 15 year lifespan,
        that hasn't changed)

It's a Carleton (Pressure Technologies) cylinder. Wouldn't that mean it has a 5 year life? Or is that only after you hydro it the first time? I'm still a bit confused. Thanks for the answer so far, though! :)

Find the DOT-E number and go to:

            http://hazmat.dot.gov/exemptions_index.htm

to see if it's a three year or five year model.

Isn't DOT Department of Transportation? Just curious as to why they are regulating compressed air cylenders?

yup DOT is the dept of turkeys.... er transportation.....

and our tanks fall under the hazmat guidelines... as high pressure vessels.... as for the tank in question as someone already said depending on the other dot info on the tank will determine if it is a 3 year or a 5 year hydro req.

if you look up the DOT site (shown above) you will see that if your tank was manufactuered (or hydro'd) after july of 2002, it has a 5 year hydro. if it is before that date, it HAS to be hydro'd in three years, then it has a 5 year AFTER it passes the three year hydro.

long story short, your needs to be hydro'd.
