    breaking paint in the tube

Ok AGD fans I am back w/ another question. I hope you are patient w/ me, I am new to the faimly. I have been playing for 10 yrs. or so. I just purchased my first Automag this year. I am in love w/ Tom's creation. Ok on to the problem. I have used the gun all year w/o any problems. Then 2 weeks ago I was playing, in the woods at about 60 degrees, here in Il. I started breaking paint in the barrel, so I switched barrels and still broke paint. I chroned the gun and it was running around 260fps. I am at a loss why it was working so good all year and now it is breaking paint in the barrel. It is a Powerfeed Automag, stock w/ a benchmark frame. I have a stock barrel and a DYE barrel. I am confussed Any help I would appreciate. Also I was not fanning the trigger, it would brake paint whether or not I was shooting fast or slow.
    Thanks for listening, Paul

What kind of paint were you using and are you sure it was fresh? There might not be anything wrong with your marker.

I used RP Marbilizer, Big Ball, and some odd stuff from Galyan's. It broke w/ all 3 kinds of paint. Paint is probably 2mo. old at most. I will do some testing in my basement this weekend. I just thought it odd that it has not really broken paint all summer and that is all it would do that day?...Same kind of paint I have used all year.

I break more paint in the winter too, the paint becomes more brittle in the cold. Take the barrel off and try blowing some balls through it, if they stick then they are too big for your barrel. Also, metal barrels "shrink" in the cold,(and expand in the heat) so the test might work indoors but not outside these days...

What kind of barrel nubbins are you using? If you are using metal nubbins and the paint is brittle due to weather conditions, you could experience barrel breaks. Also, Check you paint to barrel match. Use a barrel that is large and allows you to easily blow the paint through. The paint should touch on just two points when viewed in the barrel. When in doubt go large.

Do a drop test on the paint. Drop the paint from 6ft onto a hard surface and catch it when it bounces. Drop it again. Repeat until it breaks. A good quality paint should break after about 5 - 6 bounces. Most rec paints will bounce at least 10 times before a break. Some premium tounament paints will break on the 1st or 2nd bounce but they are good enough that they will still fire out of your gun. A poor quality paint will break early but the inconsistencies in the shell won't allow it to be fire from the marker without breaking either.
Except for the Automag in front, its usually the man behind the equipment that counts.

What was the first type of paint that you broke with... Did you make sure you clean the barrel really well? left over paint, shells and what not can cause more breakage... So the second and third type of paint may be fine? Just speculating. and throwing ideas up in the air.

might just be a bad batch of paint... i dont think 60 degrees is cold enough to make paint brittle.
Last week i thought i was indecisive, but now im not sure anymore...

I was ripping the trigger all day, testing out the 3.2 software 2200+ shots and not a single break!

What kind of DYE barrel do you have? How is your paint size? Aluminium barrel that is 0.689 will shrink about 2.5 thousands from 90 F. to 50 F. which is probably the temp of your barrel after shooting a while. Nubbins and detents will slice balls also.
