More shims will allow it to vent chamber air with the bolt farther forward which is what you want to do.
Four shims is a lot, though. Most people don't have problems with no shims at all. How far forward is the bolt when it is sticking and unable to return?
When you tried the larger carrier, did you do it with no shims in the level 10 setup?Except for the Automag in front, its usually the man behind the equipment that counts.Comment

That doesn't sound like a shim problem. That sounds like a bolt stick problem. Since a larger carrier leaks, then you will have to lubricate heavily until the o-ring is broken in. Try another carrier o-ring just in case that is your problem.
If the gun fires consistently but just doesn't reset, then go to the largest bolt spring and try that.Except for the Automag in front, its usually the man behind the equipment that counts.Comment

It shouldn't just sit there venting air. Once the air is out, it should return unless there is bolt stick. If it continues to vent air, then maybe you have a problem in the on/off assembly. Try firing and holding the trigger. Once the gun fires and the bolt returns (or not), there should be no air escaping out the front. Initially in a level 10 there may be a little hiss, but it will stop after a moment.Except for the Automag in front, its usually the man behind the equipment that counts.Comment
