gripframe screw striped.....

i picked up a used mag recently; i swaped out the gripframe for a Y, when doing so i noticed the screw was slightly striped. today i was swaping out the grip frame for a 45, so a friend could borrow it without the adjustment time it takes to get used to the Y. anyways, when i went to undo the screw, the allen key just wouldn't bite........now i can't help but feel stupid (for not using a new one when i noticed it was slightly damaged)and SOL (cause there's not even a whole lot for vise grips to bite onto).

any ideas?

Hack saw (or file) a slot across the head of the screw and get a large flathead screw driver and take it off.

Make sure you get the slot pretty deep... you only have one shot at this.

Go to Sears. They have this nifty tool that has a carbide head on it that is reverse to the threads that you need to pull out. It actually cuts into the un-hardended bolt head and grabs it. DON'T LET IT SLIP!, it makes a real mess if you do. Other than that, a dremmel with a cutting blade, make a slot for a straight screw driver.

one problem with these ideas. the trigger guard. kinda hard to use a hacksaw, screwdriver, or easy-out with it in the way..........

Ya, with the trigger guard in the way, it could be tough. Possibly grind the head off with a dremmel? The frame is not threaded, only the body is, if you got rid of the head the rest would fall off, then go to a hardware store and get a replacement bolt. That's all I can think of.
