Has anyone tried stripping the anno and polishing an original AM rail? Do you think it would be able to make it look good? (I'm really tired of theat black/purple original anno, and I have some small scratches I would want to get rid of)

the rail is annoed
you will have to be careful when stripping it. wear gloves/goggles.... lye will burn you.
you will need to buy some lye to strip it off. dunk the rail into the lye until you can see the anno coming off, use a toothbrush or something to scrub off the anno
get some sandpaper up to 800 grit, but no more. try to get wet/dry sandpaper if possible, it doesnt really matter.
there are 2 options from here, one is if you have a dremel/bench grinder, and the second one is if you dont.
Option #1:
dont use higher grits because i would leave that up to the dremel/bench grinder to do. use a compound that removes scratches, this will take the place of higher grit sandpaper.
then get jewlers rouge or a high luster compound and polish to a shine.
Option #2:
keep going higher with the sandpaper, up to the highest grit you can find, and it will still become very shiney.
