Does anyone know a good way to shorten and/or lighten the trigger stroke on a mini-mag without using the ule on/off valve?

Shorten- not really. You can try a trigger stop, but you need to make sure you have enough back-travel to get the sear out of the bolt's way.

Lighten it? Not really. That's what the ULE trigger was for. Do NOT go and try shaving the sear or anything. It will just end up breaking parts.
