Just got my X-Valve and having some problems

I got a used X-Valve in a trade and I need some help. I've done a little looking around and I can't seem to find a solution. I do not know if the problem is with the X-Valve or with the Level Ten. Here's the problem: I put the valve in and screwed in a full PE 45/45 tank, and it gassed up and immediately began leaking down the barrel. So I opened it up. I'm using a very short spring (about 3-4 mm past the bolt face), 2 shims, and the carrier with one band. I just replaced all the orings in the Level Ten, and tried different combinations of springs and carriers and none will work. Now the trigger is getting pressure, but will not fire. About one of ten times, when I gas it up it will fire just a few shots and go back to refusing to shoot and leaking down the barrel. What's the deal? Can someone please help me? If you could respond soon that would be great. I'm open to any suggestions.

It sounds like you may have only needed to go down to the next smaller carrier. I would set the Lvl X back up w/ the med. spring and find the o-ring that offers the least reisitance and doesn't leak. Use the same o-ring, the whitte one, and just change carriers, larger if it sticks and smaller if it leaks.
