Cant be answered with L10 sticky!!

I will be getting an RTP in a couple months and I had one question about the level 10 w/ the shims and all. I know you are supposed to change the shims and carriers if a leak is occuring. Why is there a leak? Is it because the orings get messed up or something. I was not about to go search the 28 pages of the level 10 sticky, but if you have a link that would be wonderful.

When an oring is made, there is a little lip on the inside of the oring. When new, that's what's creating the seal. As the bolt slides back and forth, it wears this lip down and causes a leak. The smaller carrier snugs the oring up to the bolt, eliminating the leak.

The shims are used if there is a bolt stick issue. When you set up a level 10, do it without shims first. Makes it easy to tell if there's a leak or not, and why.
