New LX issue I've been noticing

I've had my new x-valve about 2 months, and I finally have it all broken in, and everything is falling into place. The gun tears up, and I am really quite happy with it. HOWEVER, as of last weekend, and much more so today, I have noticed a new issue with my level 10.

The gun now has a consistant leak down the barrel. It starts about 2-3 seconds after I stop firing, and will build up in intensity until I can hear it over the other game noises. It will remain at this intensity until I degas the marker or fire again. When I fire again, the leak disappears, only to build up again a few seconds later. After playing today, I started playing around with LX. I tried switching carriers up and down, adding and removing shims, changing the 3 mainsprings, and finally switching out the black o-ring on the carrier. All the changes left me with the same leak, and usually introduced new problems. I eventually set everything back to my original setup. During this time, the leak did not change, except when I pushed the bolt back, then it would become less intense, but when I took my finger out of the breeh it became more intense than it originally was. The only thing I haven't tried is switching out the main white o-ring, because I REALLY don't want to have to break the whole LX in again. Has anyone had a similar problem, or any idea what might be causing this?

Also, to complicate matters, when I oil the marker, It will not leak for a good 100-200 shots, and then start to leak again. And I'm really tired right now, so if this is incoherent I'm sorry, and I'll look at it in the morning and edit it.

Mine had the same problem except the leak didn't get more intense it was just a slow leak down the barrel. What I did was clip the open ended spring down one coil and that helped. Now my gun only leaks down the barrel when it needs oil.

I have this same problem ( but no intense leak) and my spring is cut 1/2 a coil. I figured it was just one of those strange little things that happens....good to know Im not the only one

Mine seems to be not as regular as the other guys though...it sorta happens sometimes then others it wont.

Ill be interested to see what solutions are posted up.

Back to the top to hopefully get some more replys. After thinking about it, I'm thinking it might be an o-ring problem. Can't test it though, because my tank is at my teammates house.

Well, if going down a carrier size or two doesn't help and removing a shim or two doesn't help, then it looks like you will probably have to put a new carrier o-ring in there and break it in. The original o-ring probably had a flaw or got a nick in it from a piece of dirt.

I figure it probably is just the oring, but it still sucks. I just got this whole setup going well. Oh well...

I'm in the exact same situation as Leth. My LX has had 4-5 cases of paint through it and is really working great. The fit seems perfect and it's soft on paint even with the shortest spring. But I have the same exact leak as described by Lethargic. As long as I'm shooting it doesn't seem to leak but the longer the marker is idle the worse it gets. I felt this is a carrier O-Ring from the begining. but it working so good otherwise it pains me to replace it.

Noone probably saw my other post, but I too am in the exact same boat. I think it is just the carrier o-ring, and it sucks to have to replace that every so often! Anybody thought of replacing it with a different material one that would last or something?

                    UPDATE

Ok, got my tank back today, and I've been trying out a new O-ring. SAME PROBLEM. Every o-ring I have (3) results in the same down the barrel leak. So where do I go from here? If the problem isn't caused by the carrier, o-ring, shims, spring, or the little black o-ring around the carrier, what could it be? I have practice again tomorrow, and I'm not looking forward to having this problem again.

                    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Ok, slightly better news. I took it to my local airsmith, and he said it was an on/off issue. So I took out a shim on my ULT and it worked a bit better. I'm done tinkering with it for tonight, so we'll see how it works at practice tomorrow.

                        SOLUTION FOUND!!

Alright, I stumbled upon my problem today at practice completely by accident. I had a classic RT, and recently converted it to an X-valve and ULE body. I found that when I press the valve sideways, it will go out of alignment, and level 10 will vent. The solution was to simply press the valve straight forward, causing the valve (which has always been somewhat loose on the rail) to jump back into the correct alignment.

                        I feel smart

If you can move your valve around, maybe the problem is due to the field strip screw being too long. Put a washer on the screw to allow a tighter fit. Maybe that'll help keep the alignment.

I think my case is unique, because i have a converted RT mag, and the rail and the valve are quite a bit out of proportions. Because of that, the field strip screw cannot be more than hand tightened, and it will wiggle around. Not a big problem, and now that i can fix it, I won't even complain about it.
