    Lvl 10 Carrier Question

    From the level 10 guide:

... each one is a little bigger than the next. They each have small grooves on the outside to help you tell them apart. The more grooves the larger the carrier.

Larger in what sense? Is the length longer? Is the inner diameter larger? Is the outer diameter of the brass part of the carrier larger? Is the outer diameter of the o-ring part of the carrier larger?

Larger = the cavity that holds the carrier o-ring has a larger diameter.

Ideally, the carrier wouldn't cause any constriction to the o-ring. The o-ring would fit the bolt stem perfectly and offer no resistance to its movement while providing ability to seal against air leakage. The construction of the o-rings isn't that exact though, so the o-rings were selected to be as large as they could be and still fit the bolt stem. Most don't offer enough sealing ability at this size so carriers allow us to artificially tighten the inner diameter of the o-ring. Different batches of o-rings require slightly different amounts of tension to create the required inner diameter, so we have several different size carriers to allow a large cross section of o-rings to fit properly.
Except for the Automag in front, its usually the man behind the equipment that counts.
