I bought 320, 400 and 600 emery sand paper and after sanding it with the 320 grit you start seeing a GREAT improvement...then used 400 and also saw a big change in polish. I just finished using the 600 grit, sanding it under water and this one so far has made the biggest difference. I did find out that sanding directly under the faucet does help make it easier to polish because everything is washed away. It already is starting to shine. Tomorrow I'm going to get 800, 1000, 2000 and 3000 grit. If the results so far are impressive, I can't wait to see how it will look after I finish with the 3000. I'll then polish it with Mother Mag.

After I finish I'll post a pic of before and after.

Did you just use sand paper to polish it? How long did it take?

Yes, I only used sandpaper and water. In my opinion you do not need a drill or dremel. It took me about 2 1/2 hours to go from 320 to 600. The last 30 minutes I spent sanding with the 600 directly under the faucet. Tonight I'm going to start with 800 and then to 1000 and 2000.

You will notice a big difference after you have done the first sanding.

Wait, as the numbers go up, the sand paper is finer right?

Gritt rating goes the larger the # the finer it is. I could explain but I'm lazy and it would take a while.
And you can get them at walmart. IN the automotive and paint section. It comes in little packets about 4"x8"

500 grit means there are 500 grains per square inch. Therefore the higher the number the finer it's going to be.

i have seen 12 grit before, basically rocks glued onto paper, just thought i would add that, try that right after you polish, it will make it look really good

Use a wire wheel on a drill. We did this on our mags and it works great. Go to the local hardware store and look for a big, 6" wire wheel. Its a disk of small wires sticking out in all directions. Stick it on a plug in drill, most cordless drills don't have the power to do the job, and start to rub the body down with the wheel. After about half an hour it will shine like chrome.

but wont using a wire wheel leave the surface scratchy and uneven? or do u have to shine it somehow after that
