1st shot chuff

OK, I have a New Xvalve, and a ULT kit. I had the ULT in another Xvalve, and my setup ripped, but now....

I seem to get 1st shot chuff. If I put the smallest spring in, the chuff goes away, but lvl 10 ( 2 shims 1.5 carrier )does not work very well.

If I put the mid srping in, lv 10 works great, but I get 1st shot chuff.

I went up and down a carrier, and got stronger lvl 10 hit, or a slight leak down the barrel.

I think I narrowed it down to the ULT causing the problem, I have 2 lvl 10 shims, and a ULT shim in place.

If I am chuffing, do I have to take out a shim or put in a shim?

Have you chronoed? It sounds like you might have slightly low pressure. Also make sure that the lvl10 is well lubed. Check the ULE faq in my sig, it has some tips.

Velocity is right around 280 with mid spring, if I drop to short spring, same velocity makes the lvl 10 hit pretty hard
