    Help with wildly fluctuating velocity

I have a classic RT valve that is giving me fits. WHen you air it up it won't shoot at all. You can make it fire by turning the velocity up. It will fire but then starts leaking out the back and it seems obvious that the velocity must be over 300 now. It won't fire anywhere in between. I oiled it thoroughly and greased up the springs. I tried different power tube spacers and I don't think the bolt is sticking. Finally I ordered a new regulator piston. Is that going to solve my problem?

No level 10 and I'm using a preset 68/4500 HP tank. Just a classic RT, nothing extra.

        Probably the regulator piston...

That's what I was guessing. As I turn the velocity adjuster up, it won't fire, turn up a little more, still won't fire, little more, won't fire, little more. Fires at over 300 and starts venting. Anything else other than the piston that could be causing this problem? I am pretty sure the springs aren't binding.

Also make sure your trigger rod is in spec. If it is too short, it won't push the on/off all the way.

I did check the trigger rod but that shouldn't effect the velocity should it. If the trigger rod works at 250, would it be any different at 300?

Clean and grease the regulator piston and see it it helps. If not, you probably have to replace it.

Yeah, tried that. I ordered a new piston a couple of days ago. Hopefully, that will fix the problem.
