    X-mag velocity problem

I have Pewter x-mag. Lately the velocity has been really inconcistent. I have tried mandy types of paint and a few different barrels. It will shoot a consistent velocity off and on, with a veiance of only +/- 5 FPS but a lot of the time it will bounce around alot from 290 down to 260.

I did a rebuild kit hoping that may help but it still did the same thing. Also i had a tourney yesterday, the field was a max of 300fps so i cronoed in at 275fps. I set it low hoping i would peak over 300, but sure enough it did when chronoing off after a game it shot 301fps, 305, and then went up to 317 lets just say i got a penalty. So i went back and rechronoed it for the next game i brought it back down to 275.

In my next game i shot through a hopper and a pod, but the next pod ended up all over me. The X freaked out again and i lost all velocity it started packing balls in the barrel, and when i could get one out the barrel it only moved 5feet. Luckly we still won that game. I went back to the chrono station and shot it, i got one ball to come out it was at 120fps.

I guess my whole reson for this post is to find out what is wrong. I love may X but if i can't rely on it for tourney's i'm goint to have to get rid of it, and really don't want to. Can any one help.

What size barrel id are you using? What paint are you shooting?

Is the level 10 tuned properly? Are you using the largest carrier that doesn't leak? Sometimes a carrier that is too tight can cause fluctuations.

Did you take the regulator assembly apart and clean it as well when you put the repair kit in?
Except for the Automag in front, its usually the man behind the equipment that counts.

as for barrels i tried a few different barrels. I used a dye stainless and my stiffi. I thought it could be that so i used a evil pipe kit. It still did it. as for paint i used blaze, evil, flash, artic inferno, and some rps stinger it did wit all of them.

I beleive the level 10 is adjusted correctly. I started with the 3 line carrier and worked down until there was no leak. I think i have a 1line and dot carrier in now.

As for the regulator assembly i took it aprt and cleaned wiped all out. I also added some dow 33 back there.

The one thing i was wondering about shoud i take that all and wash it with so some and water? i though maybe some dirt particals could be in there.

Ok, next thing. Is the regulator pin moving freely. Sometimes you have to put a drop of oil directly onto the pin where it goes through the o-rings. Once it gets broken in, it should be ok though.

its oiled up and it moves pretty freely but i'm still getting the velocity problem.

Could the regulator piston be bad? i know they normally leak if they are but could there be a problem with it?

Ok, lame question - isn't the X-mag tuned/checked before it's shipped out? I was under the assumption that it was pretty much ready to go right out of the box...

it is tuned to where it will work but most of the time you tune it to where you like it. Mine worked great for 150k shots now the x is acting up

You would not be able to see your regulator pin assembly move. Nor see it move freely. And its not part of the rebuild kit. So you have NOT checked it nor oiled it. You missunderstood the earlier recomendation to oil it. You can not see it until its pulled out nor see it move freely.

Review the diagrams and pull that assembly out and oil it.

I think i miss understood. are you talking about valve pin? Because thats what i checked and oil. Because i can't find a regulator pin in the diagrams. If i'm wrong where exactly is the regulator pin.

Pull it out... slather it good. Then reinstall. Make sure the outer oring goes on and then that brass thingie... And that the little oring is still in place on the back half of the valve. Make sure they line up as you put the two halves back together. Some new ones are stiff/large and tight and they might take frequent oiling until fully broken in good.
