What are the technical reasons for AGD phasing out the twist lock barrel / body design? This was a selling point when I purchased my first mag in 97. Other than saving on two extra parts, I don't see any advantage.
Twistlock Barrells.

No technical reason other than the popularity of cocker barrels. Automag twistlock barrels were a little more expensive due to the extra machining involved. So, many manufacturers either didn't make them or put them as a low priority item to be done after all other orders were completed.Except for the Automag in front, its usually the man behind the equipment that counts. -
Cheaper.
More availability of barrels.
Tolerance control. (Some barrels wouldn't fit the level 10 bolt. That's b/c the breach was actually inside the barrel itself.)
Some say it's an accuracy thing as well b/c the twist lock barrels kinda "float" whereas the cocker ones are threaded in and won't vibrate.Comment

Well I can't speak for Tom or AGD as a whole...
But I think the main reasons were ... threads are the Standard in the industry, cocker threads being possibly the most popular... also threads make for a cheaper costing and lighter barrel than the twist lock system, along with provide more options to the player in the barrel marketplace...
It was no reason or fault to the quality, durablility, or funtionality of the Twist lock system... other than some rare issues with aftermarket barrels and the level 10...
EDIT: looks like several people stepped up and answered while I typed... just echo's mine and their points I guess...Last edited by Vanced; 05-18-2004, 02:29 PM.
