Old School Shocker 4X4 needs some help!

    Howdy

I just bought an old school shocker 4X4 from my friend, knowing it had some issues. He wanted out of the sport, and I was glad to help him out.

I'm kinda foggy on what the problem is though. I've put probably 1-200 dry fire rounds through it, and they all sounded fine. But when I went to go shoot 10 rounds of paint in my garage (I live in the city), probably 1/3 of those "Studdered". By that I mean I heard the gun click, but it didn't fire on the first shot, and on all of those it fired at the normal velocity the second time I pulled the trigger.

That happened to 1/3 of the shots with paint, but I have yet to see it happen just when I've been dry firing it, which leads me to say, The hell is going on?

FYI: Bottom line maxflow set at 150psi, using CO2. Has some sort of blade trigger on an old board that uses Dip Switches to control the timing. I thought it could be a timing issue, but then why does it dry fire perfectly all the time?

    Thanks!
Hey Zero, how much did that Chipley cost ya?

Well, it could just need a good thurough lubing. If you got some Dow33 around, grease up the bolt and other internals. U might also want to use a chrono to see what fps your shooting. If fps is low, turning up the pressure on the max flow may also solve your studdering problem. I dont think its supposed to go above 180-200 psi though.

Well im not really good with old shocker..... and btw this is an automag forum not a shocker forum.... Ill try to help you though. First pull the gun apart and clean any gook off the internals. Then put some oil on it. Also check the ball detent that might be holding some of the balls up. The first time you shoot it might catch the first ball. Then the second time you shoot it finishes pushing the ball out. If none of those things work try refitting the bottom line and hoses, there might be something blocking the airflow. If none of those work my best guess is to take it to an airsmith shop. Otherwise your guess is as good as mine. I have an 03 shocker. Much better made, lighter, more durable, and never has internal problems :)

This is an automag forum? Since when! I guess I've been misled in my 1300+ posts here

I also posted in the shocker forum at PBN.

And I paid $80 for this gun. If my friend were to have offered me an 03 shocker for that much, I probably would have bought that too...

I don't have any Dow 33 here, but when I took it apart there was still enough on the parts. Either way when I get some I'll wipe all the old crap off and get a fresh coat of grease on. If that doesnt fix the problem I'll come back and let y'all know.

Still I'm puzzled and perplexed as to how it can be dry fired a hundred times without so much as hinting its going to "Studder" (It sounds like LX chuffing though, maybe I'll start calling it that), and then when I put paint in it, 1/3 of the shots do that.

        I blame Smart Parts :)

            Old school shocker

I've got a 2002 shocker too. Never had any problems with it either, but it definately will not shoot below 160psi, it will do the "chuffing thing" you talked about. Try it at 190psi before you assume anything.

My shocker shoots around 180-220psi. Whatever you do, don't put oil in it. that'll screw it up fast. You need the viscosity of the grease. Personally, I'd clean all of the old lube off of the internals as well as the max-flo. Give it a really good going over, re-lube, and re-assemble.
