I have a retrovalved automag and I wanted to turn the reactivity down to make it tourney legal. Everyone always bashes the use of a secondary reg because it starves the valve, but how else can I turn down the reactivity without blowing money on a new tank? Would slapping on a black ice or cocker ergo reg starve the valve? How would getting a secondary reg be any different (other than the price) than getting a new adjustable tank altogether?

It starves the RT valve b/c the tank reg has to fill, then the inline and then the gun valve. Too much filling.
If you want the reactivity turned down, make sure you have the right on/off pin in the gun. Too short a pin can do that. Also, makes sure the field strip screw is tightened by the allen key.
Lastly, if you're really desperate to get rid of ANY RT kick- the ULT is perfect for it.

-Buy and adjustable tank and turn down the output pressure.
-Adjust the pin itself.
