    Odd Phantom Velocities

Dear Ao'ers, I have come to you to help solve a problem concerning my new phantom.
I just recieved a used vsc phantom, but when I chrono'd my gun it wouldnt get much further than 230 fps and at that point it would drop velocity.

I have screwed the velocity adj in and out, stays about 200 nothing else. I also do set the velocity with that set screw on the side of the bolt.

My problem once again is I cant maintain a somewhat consistent velocity nor can i get it above 230.

Please be nice, i came here first b/c pbnation would probably bomb me with a " you re an idiot" or "go search" reply

    Thanks

I do know the AO sig rules, I just want a free sig pic, that's all!

Have you taken the phantom apart since you've gotten it? Check to make sure the small set screw on the bolt is tight enough to lock down the velocity adjustor (if it's nylon be careful not to strip it). That is probably why your consisitency is bad. If you can't get the velocity over 230 no matter what, it sounds like the pump handle is not going/staying forward enough. Check to see if it's getting caught up on anything and also you may need to adjust it's length with the small nut that is attached to it. If you've taken off the pump return spring make sure you hold the pump forward while you fire.

        thanks for help everyone
the pump arm travels all the way back than forward, the set screw cant be the problem since even though i turn it all the way up or down, it shoots 200 or 230 on the first shot

Ok, clarify something for me... are you trying to adjust the velocity by turning the set-screw (side of the bolt, accessable through the hole in the SC feed) or down the barrel using the adjuster rod? You should be using the rod, turning it clockwise to increase, counterclockwise to decrease velocity. It sounds to me like you're turning the set screw. Also, sometimes it feels like the adjuster rod is in, but it's not really locked into the slot. You think you're cranking it up or down but it's still just sitting on the surface of the bolt and not doing anything. Taking off the barrel can help you fit it on there better.

Also, check your paint-barrel fit. If it's too tight, it will slow you down and cause big fluctuations. I believe the stock barrel size is .691.

When I got my VSC it was shooting 320 out of the box. Yikes!

If all else fails, call Mike directly at CCI. He's a great guy and should be able to help you out.

haha no im not setting the set screw, first i screw the front (down the barrel) than i open it to set the set screw.

for sure its going in and out, but the velocity only changes from 200-220

Hehehe... well, I did have to make sure.

I would call CCI and get a new spring. Depending on how old yours is and if it was stored compressed, it my just be worn out. Either that, or the adjuster in the bolt itself may be messed up somehow. Either way, call Mike. Chat. It's his baby, and he'll fix it up right.

                  Here's one of many:
http://www.pbn5.com/paintball/mercha...t_Code=1002575 If you do a google search, you can find lots of them.

BTW, there's a good pic here of what the internals lay out to be, and what the springs look like:

Make sure that the spring in the valve (smaller spring) is not broken or been cut. The same for the bolt/hammer spring. And I'm sure that you checked this but make sure that the velocity adjuster rod is going into the bolt and able to turn the screw, mine was hard to get the rod in the bolt so when I turned it nothing would happen.
