Minimag CA use??!!

Hey All

Well, I have just picked up a used minimag a couple of weeks ago and played with it last weekend.. I loved it and can not wait until I have the money to pick up a LX (even though I only chopped 1 ball all day)..

Any ways, here is my question, I have a 47/3000 HPA tank... While playing on the weekend I noticed I was plowing through the air.. LOTS.. At first I thought I had a leak (which I did, but it was absolutely minor), then when testing the marker after redoing all the teflon seals on the hose connections I noticed that on 25 dry fires it would suck back about 100 PSI!! I was absolutely amazed by this number (so was my friend who just got 1500 rounds out of a 20oz CO2 tank on his 2k4 Cocker). Anyways I found the marker would die around 300 to 400 rounds, not enough for me..

Are MAGS air hogs? If so I will have to look at a bigger tank (is 114CI big enough? :) )

Or is there some changes I can make to it to help cut down on consumption..
Please note, I dont have a lot of cash right now so the happier solutions would be cheaper at this time :)

Any idea's?

** EDIT NOTE - I had miss entered the amount of PSI usage, I had said 200, but it is really 100 PSI per 25 shots **

A 47ci 3000 psi tank is pretty small. I get over 1000 off my 68ci 4500psi off a goot 4000+ fill. Considering head pressure 400 shots off a 47ci 3000 sounds about right. If you can affort/get filled look at a 4500 psi tank, and perhaps a bit larger. Even on a 47ci 4500 tank you will get more than a 50% increase in shots. if you can't do 4500, a 114ci tank will get you over 1000 shots as well. I used to have one of those back in the day (6-7 years ago).

I have been thinking about a 114CI tank, but also dont want to pay a freaking arm and leg and such.. I figure they are not as in vogue any more so maybe I can find one cheap.. Hard to say..

What about running a low pressure reg? Something that takes the bottle down from 800 to say 300 or even 250? Would this help the amount of air useage?

nope, the mag regulates itself so it would just regulate it twice, and possibly starve the gun of air in rapid shooting, but on a minimag it would probably just do nothing at all

114 tanks are acutaly the cheapist used. Almost no one wants a tank that big so they go for very little $$. Look on ebay or pbn and you will find a lot under 100$.

Do not put an LPR on a mag. They need a good 600 psi input (more with Lvl 10 and X-valve).

If you have access to someone who fills up to 4500 psi, buy a 4500 tank. I have a Java 88ci/4500psi tank, and I get around 800 shots.

Also, keep in mind that guns use more air when dryfiring than when actually shooting paint.
My feedback is available here.

Canada & Fiber wrapped bottles????

Hey all..

Well, I went shopping the net today and yesterday.. Found about 3 114ci bottles, each was 3000 PSI, a little smaller then I had hoped for.. Did I buy one? Not as of yet, the reason? Because I heard a little rumor that here in Canada fiber wrapped bottles are only good for 5 years and then must be tossed, they will NOT rehydro fiber wrapped bottles.

Not sure if that is true, but I would hope not if I am buying a fiber bottle with a year to go..

Any one out there know?
