    Compressed air system question

My question is about a compressed air system.
I'm wondering what the correct procedure is for connecting the regulator to the tank itself. Is it necessary to put some sort of thread sealer, like loc-tite, on the threading of the regulator before i pressurise the cylinder, or is it enough to get it nice and tight with a wrench or something to that effect??

    Thanks

easiest way dont do it your self, get an airsmith to do it, you dont want to get anything inside the tank or strip anything or not sealing it dont be the one to blame

      any other suggestions?

I agree, that would be the easiest thing to do, but "airsmiths" are in short supply around my area. It's looking like I'm going to have to do it either by myself, or call up the hydro testing place, but I thought I'd try here first to see if anywone was savy to this type of thing.
      Anyone else have suggestions?

like the other guy said, taking it to a prefessional high pressure airsmith is the best idea. you have ALOT of energy in your hands when those are filled.

that said..........dont use ANY loctite or thread sealers. there is an o-ring on the top of the reg that will seal to the tank once it is tightened down. you do need to find the torque spec for that tank to correctly tighten it on though.......

pretty much everyone has something different to say on this subject. There are torque specs you should follow, but its not really necessary. When I attached mine, I used a few drops of red loctite on the very end of the threads on the reg, so it would disperse evenly across them. Then I just tightened it as much as I could by hand and let it dry for 24 hours. It's a 4500psi system, and I've never had a problem since. Some people say not to use the loctite, some say to follow the torque specs, and other say to have it professionally done. I'm not saying this is the best way, just that it worked fine for me.

good luck at hydro time............if they damage the threads getting the reg back off, they will condemn the bottle.

So is it just a matter of releasing the air out of the bottle, unscrewing the reg, and then screwing it back on with the right amount of torque? How many foot lbs are we talkin?

                  Straight from the horses mouth.

Well, I decided to call air america anyway, and this is the word on tightening the reg into the tank. One drop of blue loctite on the bottom 2 or 3 threads, then tighten it snug with a rubber pad, a vice and a wrench.
