Teflon Tape

Ive heard many horror stories about teflon tape going into the valve. I use it all the time (now its got me thinking)but if i were to tear down my valve again, would the teflon tape be found in the regulator seat area? or some hard to reach place that AGD only knows of?

When I use teflon tape, I don't put it on the threads that are going to go deep in, only on the upper threads closer to the macroline swivel. I think by doing it that way it's less likely to go into the valve.

thats some good advice right there. thats what i always do and i havent found teflon anywhere. dont be afraid to use it...

I only use it If i have to. I use blue loctite. I have had no problem with using it right away after assembly but I do use quality fittings. I just got some permetex thread sealant stuff I'm going to try.

If you use teflon tape make sure to not get any on the end of the fitting.

ive used teflon tape (plumbers tape) on my 98 custom and its great, i dont like loctite because its not as fast to use or replace like tape. and for ppl who dunno where to get it, go to ANY hardware store

The teflon tape can have pieces break off and gt into the valve. For the most part, these pieces will blow right through. It is rare for them to get caught, but they can fetch up on restricted areas in the regulator. If this happens, you just need to take the valve apart and remove the offending debris.

Teflon tape is more dangerous for electronic guns that use micro solenoids. If a piece of teflon tape gets into one of these solenoids, it can ruin them.

When using teflon tape, make sure the tape doesn't go out to the deepest thread. That way, all tape is in the threads and can't get into the gun at all.

Also, for all us macroline users, you know that white, hard sealant that comes pre-applied to the threads? If you remove a macro fitting that stuff loves to flake off, make sure you clean all the flakes off the threads of whatever that fitting was screwed into so these don't get pushed down into the inside of the tank/ASA/gun/etc. as you put a new fitting on. If anything if going to gunk up you're gun, I can guarantee that will.
