    Emag Battery/Electronics Problems

Well my emag has been working nicely lately after taking it in to agd to get a replacement on/off pin cause the one that came stock with it was damaged. Well anyway I found a random adaptor lying around the house that said it had an output of 12 volts and the plug happened to fit into my emag charger adaptor thing. So I decided that it should be safe to use for charging my emag. Well, when I took the battery off the charger about 3 hours later it was pretty hot and tried putting it on my gun and it didn't work. I decided that it probably just needed to cool down so I waited another hour before I tried it again. This time it worked for about 15 seconds then it died immediately after i pulled the trigger (i could no longer scroll through the menus or anything). Now it works about 1/4 of the time i pull the yellow pin out of the battery. Does anyone have any idea what's wrong?

On the end of the cord

What were the contact points on the end of the cord?
Did they match up with the adaptor for the battery?
Meaning on the cord +on the outside and - on the inside or vise versa.

the cord has to match the charging adaptor ie. same same +on inside and -on the outside or opposite.

I'm not sure how to tell what the +/- is of the end of the plug/battery adaptor. The red light on the battery adaptor did turn on (it seemed like it was charging) if that helps.

Sounds like you fried your battery!!! Like Prezent said, check the polarity on your adapter, chances are it is the opposite of what it needs to be!!! On your E-mag charger, + is on the center!!! Either that, or the output current (mA) is too high!! Hope this helps!!!

The wrong polarity going into the carger could cause problems, but if the light came on, then it was probably ok.

A lot of power adapters don't have the amp capacity to properly charge the emag battery. It needs over 1Amp of output to properly charge the emag battery. Most only have ~350 - 500mA or less.

If the battery was heating, then that is usually an indication that there is a bad cell in the battery, a short, or you were over charging the battery. I would check for a short in one of the wires in the battery pack first.
Except for the Automag in front, its usually the man behind the equipment that counts.

                emag charger

Mine always got warm when charged, in the car, or with my home radio shack charger.

I was told to get the 13.5 V, 1000ma charger.

On the standard cahrger it says16.8V/650mah - input 10-15 VDC.

AM I killing this thing? It seems to have no problems (yet) but does get a bit warm.

                Suggestions?

Every battery gets a bit warm when charging, it's normal and they all do it!!! If it is getting Hot , then you have a problem!!! The Radio Shack chargers seem to work well. And eventualy, all batteries die!!! Hope this helps!!

Look on the charger for a diagram like this. It will tell you the polarity of the charger. It may be too late, but just as an FYI if you decide to get a Radio Shack carger

This would be the diagram for a center + and outer - setup (and vise versa for, uh vice versa )

The batteries will get warm. As long as they don't get hot, they will be fine. Once the battery is fully charged, the charger will back off the amount of charge to protect the battery from over charge (smart charger).

The 13.5v, 1000mA charger outputs 1A at automobile voltage which is the voltage the car adapter has access to. The 16.8v/650mA standard charger equals ~11watts of power. The 13.5v/1000mA gives you 13.5 watts of power. So, when the voltage is converted to 18v for charging the 16.8v batteries, you still have plenty of capacity from your charger.

                          You are not killing it.

                              Yay It Works!!

Well a funny thing happened today so I thought I'd pull up this thread again. I picked up my Emag from my floor in hopes of pulling the trigger and pretending like it was working. Somehow the yellow plug came out of the battery and when I pulled the trigger it made the little pulse noise (like when it works). So I put the plug back in for 10 seconds, then pull it back out and the led read "AGD 3.2". Im like this cant be right, so i take off the battery, wait 10 more minutes, put it back on and it works. It's true, Emags really do fix themselves.
