Level 10 on a field rental

Ok guys im in a real pickle.

I want a level 10 bolt. I cant have the level 10 bolt because I have a field rental valve. Is there some way to tweak the powertube or do somthing to modify the dang thing to make it so I can run a level 10 on it? I think 225 for an x valve is nuts, so im not doing that. Thanks,
    John

as far as I'm aware, you only have to purchase the Lvl10 kit, it has all the bits that you need to modify the power-tube with (spacers, shims, o-rings etc) and pop the bolt on :)

    sorted!

No, Lvl 10 won't fit field rental valves. You would have to get it milled.

Yes you can do it. you need to enlarge the restriction in the power tube with a drill and sharp drill bit (stainless is hard to drill). i did it easily, just use a drill bit that is a bit larger than the lx transfer tube in the bolt. Then install as normal.

          okay

okay, sounds beautiful....Yet....how do I "enlarge the restriction"? What is the restriction and what is it I need to enlarge? I havnt bought the level 10 yet so I dont know exactly why it doesnt fit. Thanks.

I'd recommed selling your rental valve here in clasifieds and buying another classic valve.

Rental valves are somewhat hard to find and I bet you could sell it without too much trouble.

The powertube's interior airway is not as wide as a standard AIR valve to restrict the velocity the rental guns can shoot at.
              • The powertube would be the valve stem behind the brass tip with the slot.
              • Remove this brass tip with a nickel/ 5 cent coin, turning counterclockwise.
              • Remove the internals (spacer, PT oring) and you now have your target for drilling out.
              • Use a caliper to determing the thickness of the internal stem thickness of your LX bolt.
              • Find a matching drill bit, use a drill press and drill out the valve.
Be aware, your valve probably no longer qualifies for warranty, but you LX kit probably does if you bought it recently yourself. (not second-hand) So the alignment of the powertube relative to the LX bolt's stem and the side walls need a decent tolerance. If you hand drill, you will have a slight angular offset that could cause your LX bolt's stem to crack or your PT to crack.

Please correct me as needed fellow tinkers... I haven't touched a classic in a while.

Good description of what to do JadedT.
But you need to select a drill size that is several sizes LARGER, so that you have no drag on the bolt. If i remember correctly, there is no restritor at all in a regular valve, so you can drill it out to the size of the power tube. someone double check for me please!
