    used mag problems

I was so happy to find a mag I could afford on ebay, but after playing for the first time this Saturday i found I have inherited many problems. This is my set-up:68 classic,Budd Orr reg, proflow filter, pro team venturi bolt, reactor valve, pro team power tube spacer kit, tourney thumb velocity adjuster. My problems are 1:I constantly fire two balls and 2: pressure "peeters" off after and couple rounds and then comes back(it does this continually),and 3: I am only firing about 75 ft (accuratly about 30). Any advise will greatly appreciated.

Well... I see a lot of aftermarket parts listed. Not that its a bad thing, but few have had luck w/ aftermarket "upgrades".

My suggestion with a used gun would be a complete tear-down, clean, lube, and rebuild.

If you feel confident in doing this, follow this link for manuals and diagrams: http://www.airgun.com/manual.shtml

Otherwise you might want a to have a qualified pro-shop or tech look at it.

First and foremost, welcome to AO!!!
Yes, a good clean/ lube/O-ring replacement will go a long way!! Also, if you are using compressed air, you don't need the reg or the filter, either one of these could explain the "petering off" problem!!!

Man, u guys rock. Talk about rreplying with a quickness. Anyway cant wait to get home and try your advise, wanna get back in the game. Also, would i be better off to just gut the gun and buy agd upgrades. I got no problems with doing that if the gun will perform better. Anyone got any gripes with an intelliframe on a classic?

what he said! a great place to start looking for upgraids is http://store.airgun.com/ and the intelli frame rocks! you could also look into the Y or Vert grips but thats all about personal pref one def nice upgraid would be the lvl 10 bolt, and if ya really want to go all the way X-valves are another nice place to start.

            I agree...

1st thing to do if you can is get a compressed air tank. Makes the world a better place when playing with an automag. 2nd, if it is an older mag check the on/off top to see what kind it is. If it is an hourglass shaped one, you are good. If it looks like the top of a castle (flat on bottom and 4 nobs on top), this could be another reason for the shootdown. I had one of these and had to fire very slow. Every 1st shot was fine, but if I tried a quick 2nd or 3rd...practically roll out the barrel. Once I put in a new one...shot great! Bam Bam , a member here had 3 of them for sale, I bought one (the hourglass one) . The other 2 would work fine as well. He had them under Misc Items for sale in classified for $6 shipped.

            Good luck!

              you said budd orr reg?

inline reg? don't need that for sure. that could possibly be the cause of the pressure problem. an inline reg used on a mag, and set too low to for the gun to operate properly. you really want more input pressure in a mag.

#2 , probably don't need the filter either. I've never used one, and have never had a problem. if it's dirty, and old, it could be clogged, and also cause airflow problems.

firing two balls comes from a worn out, or lack of wire ball detent. check the barrel for the presence of the wire ball detent. a parts kit would have one, and be a great ting to have for every mag owner.

eventually I would get rid of the reactor valve. it is nothing more than a nuisance. a stock on/off performs the best and is the easiest to work with.

I feel guilty getting all this free advise. When I looked up Budd Orr reg on the net all i found was advise for cockers. Wonder why he had one on this mag? Is it something I can just remove? Or should I replace it with something made for mags?

please do not get insulted. but you souind like you're new to paintball all together.

                  not a problem though.

automags do not need an inline reg between the tank and the gun. the back of a mag is a regulator, so extra regulation is actually just slowing down the flow of air. I would take it off that gun. if you need to re attach the airlines and don't know how to do it properly, have someone do it who is an airsmith or atleast experienced.

a compressed air tank is what you really want to use on a mag. not Co2. while many have had luck with Co2, it is well known that the mag will perform better (as well as other guns) on compressed air.

compressed air tanks can come with regulators that are preset at a certain output pressure. most are 800 psi, some are lower.
some tanks have adjustable output, but they are usually more expensive.
for a mag, you want a tank with a reg that has high output pressure. 800 or more.

                  hope that helps.
