    rt custom with ult probs

I have a rt custom ule with the ult and it has had problems with it resetting. It came with 5 ult shims installed and 3 lvlX shims installed. After it has been "broken" in it now goes full auto, and is slow to reset. I have tried to change the springs(all 3) and have went up a carrier size, and put in the fourth shim in the lvlX. I have slowed down the full auto with the middle spring but the bolt is still very slow to reset. I have messed around with the field strip screw and it seems to help slightly. What is wrong with my set up. I have not heard of anyone getting there ult or rt custom with all 5 shims installed.

Check the link in my sig. It might answer some of you questions. One thing to keep in mind is that the grip frame screw and the field strip screw should be tightened with about the same amount of torque, although I don't know if it will help you. It helped me with som weird bolt stick problems.

Start taking shims out of your ULT 1 at a time until it resets normally. I am running 2 shims in my ULT, 2 shims in my lvl 10, and the short spring...I have yet to chop, no matter how fast I shoot...mine came with 4 shims in the ULT, and once it broke in, it did "full-auto" until I took 2 shims out.

thanks JONI. It sounds like that might be it. When I tried to tighten or loosen the field strip screw it would shoot once or so. I also have a logic frame and I have tightened the front frame screw very tight. So I'll try that tomorrow. Hope it works.
To usmc: I have tried taking out as many as 3 shims in the ult and it would not fire, and took out shims in the lvlX and it still went full auto and then when I stopped, it would not reset. Thanks for the replies. Any help is gratefull.

          good luck with that darthp...

joni and i have had similar RTpro issues.. thats what prompted me to write the FAQ in the sig...

as far as the screws on your trigger frame... dont kill yourself putting that one in the trigger guard on... joni has the 1.0 version on his rtp and i have the 1.1, and i dont think either of us strain muscles to put them on... maybe a 1 grunt tight, but you sould never tighten things down too far on the ULE mags.. they're made of thinner/lighter material and the bodies tend to flex under large loads...

post back if things fall thru....

oh yeah... i meant to post my current marker setup to guide if you need help....

thanks calimag for the info. I have loosened the front frame screw and it helped slightly. I have the 1.5 carrier with 3 lvX shims in and all five ult shims in the ult. The 2.0 carrier leaks. The bolt feels nice and not to tight when I try it outside of the valve but, when I put the carrier in the valve and try it, it seems alot tighter. Is that normal? I also have a preset (crossfire) tank. You said in your reply that you are using the red (middle spring). I thought the red was the longest one. I have the spring with part of the coil cut off on it right know and it still bounces like crazy. Thanks ahead of time for any help and two or more heads are always better than mine.

ok my bolt is still sticking. So I put back in an original on/off and it shoots just fine(even after taking out all three shims in the lvl X). So I have narrowed it down to the ULT kit. I have changed out the orings and oiled it and it still sticks. Any help or suggestions?

run the regular on/off. That's what I did when I found out the ult was not worth the hassle and extra tuning variable. The regular on/off is no surprises. YMMV

the 2 systems of the LVLX bolt and the ULT kit are, so far as i can tell, completely sepperate.. i've heard many people say that the 2 need to be tuned to work with each other.. i dont believe this to be true... many times waht happens is that an adjustment is made in the ULT and then a person does not tighten the field strip screw back in enough, and the bolt seems to then have an issue... which is of course, not the case... its just the screw that is not tight enough, but it lead one to think otherwise....

like i always say... go back to a very stock setup and work your way up from there.... the ULT kit is made so that is can work with no shims, and can also work with 6 (i've even hear of folks using more..)

what i'm saying is that one system is most likely working fine (odds are its the ULT)... its just that your valve/bolt is out of whack some how... so, go back to the stock spring, the largest carrier that doesnt leak and as many shims as you can that dont leak.... then go from there...

the ULT is a drop in mod, which means that, by design, it shouldnt really affect any of the existing systems on your marker (except making your trigger easier to pull)...

type back is you have more trouble...

OK so I have tried different combos on the frame screw( tighter, looser, and what not) and the field strip screw, and nothing. It only happens when I start to fire fast. So I put the ult in my other x valve and it worked great for the first day, then the second day it does the same thing. I am about ready to give up on the ult, but I love the light pull. Can anyone help or should I just send it in to looked at. I'd hate to use a star on something that sounds like an easy fix, plus lose my main gun for 2 weeks.

:) I finally got it working right. I had to loosen the front frame screw alot. It is still a little snug but the gun shots reliably now. Thanks calimag.
