    Automag classic problems

Well Ok lemme start from the beginning. My mag was acting up and I thoght that my spring was dead. I decided to get a lvl 10 and got that tuned in good(I think). As it turns out though my original problem was the regulator seat was toast. Anyways I did get a rebuild kit and replaced every o-ring in the gun. Its werking fine most of the time. Every once in a while it will chuff shots. sometimes several in a row. Its like its jest not getting enough air thru it. The ball will stick about 3/4 of an inch into the barrel. I think that It may be an alignment issue with my barrel, but I dunno. There seems to be some forward play in the barrel when it is locked down. Its a mag with the twist lock barrel. It seems to change somewhat when I change the torque on the frame screws as well, but the problem it seems is too random to really tell. Other than that, the gun is working fine. The lvl 10 has 2 shims and is at the largest carrier that wont leak. When I put the big spring on, it seems to do it more, but the other 2 springs are about the same, with it happening maybe 10 out of every 250 shots. Its not a terribly big deal because the performance otherwise is excellent, but if I could alleviate this issue it would be perfect. Thanx in advance for any input.

    jest a recap.
1.lvl 10 with the biggest carrier that doesnt leak.
    2.two shims in lvl 10
3.rebuild kit so all o-rings are new
4.other than that its all stock cept an expansion chamber.
5.Oh yeah its a dye 14 inch barrel (not sure what series.)

Well, first of all thanks for the detailed information. It makes it much easier to diagnose your problem.

It sounds as though your LX setup is good, so leave that alone.

Your chuffing shots could be a result of:
    1. Velocity too low
    2. Barrel out of alignment with bolt
    3. Front frame screw too long and pushing on barrel
    4. Input pressure too low

The only other thing is that it might just need some time to break in. Keep running some oil through the gun and shooting the gun to break in those new o-rings. New o-rings in Mags are really tight and affect the performance of the gun noticeably. I haven't change the o-rings in my E-Mag since I started using it. Just a healthy diet of oil and a bit of dow 33 on particular o-rings and it sings.

The one other thing that could be your problem is the barrel o-orings could be worn out. This was the problem on my old mag with lvl 10.

The velocity was the first thing I adjusted when it started happening. It does it about the same whether the velocity is 400 or 200. The front screw is the original so in theory it should be the right length. I think that it may be the barrel. I run the gun off co2 and have since i first got her. Is there a way to adjust the input pressure on that at all? I thought the reg on the gun was supposed to do that? Yeah i bought my mag in 98 and this is the first time ive even changed any of the o-rings. I kept all of the old ones, except the regulator seat which was toasted, because they are still in good shape. Well i guess ill play with the barrel and the frame screws a bit and see what that does for me. Thanx

It really sounds like the bolt. After installing a Level 10 on my friends E-mag it chuffed a lot. He was very frustrated and thought I did a bad job. I dry-fired the gun about 500 times (I have scuba tanks so I don't constantly run back to the store to fill my Nitro). The bolt was just a bit too wide and wore in once I dry fired it plenty of times. If that isn't the issue than it's the torque between the front frame screw and the field strip screw. Some guns are very very picky on the torque between the screws.

Good luck getting it work so you can go out and kick some Smart Parts butt
