Are they worth the $43? What are the up/down sides of them?

No, theyre not worth the money, and the up side is, it will probably do nothing to your 'mag, despite what the advertising and packaging says, the down side is, due to poor quality and poor lapse design specs, it will probably only cause your 'mag to have problems sometime in the future from wear due to poor quality or not work right from the first place, whatever you do, keep the old stock parts, as you will probably need them in the future when the 'upgrade' aftermarket part starts causing trouble. This also applies to pretty much all of the aftermarket 'upgrade' internal valve parts for 'mags. Keep the valve stock, and avoid the problems. If you really want to upgrade the performance of your 'mag, the only real way to do so is to get a ReTro Valve.

If you do buy one, keep the stock parts, you'll need em eventually when the inferior construction and quality fail on the aftermarket parts.

LOL! AGD should do that with the aftermarket parts that I'm sure they have somewhere, now hows that for confidence? "Oh? you dont think our valve is the best?? here, let us give you an aftermarket one, you can return it to us later"
